The Best Animated Announcements From Disney Plus Day

There were lots of announcements on what’s coming on Disney Plus, and we present our most favourite news from this event!

What Is Disney Plus Day: New Movies and Features Available NowOn Disney Plus Day, a lot of new works announced will come flooding into the streaming service next year. I’m more excited for the animated material than the others. Yes, Marvel Entertainment and Star Wars will get their expanded universe treatment, and all I can say is, “What, no more Clone Wars type material? There’s no tease for what the next season of The Bad Batch will entail?”

Out of the entirety of everything’s announced, it’s Chip n’ Dale Rescue Rangers which excites me the most. I’ve always loved their nostalgia laden pulp fiction adventures. It’s going to be a live-action / CGI hybrid work, and I’m okay with that. Ever since their cameo in the updated Ducktales, I’ve been hoping their return isn’t being delayed because of finding replacement voices or rights management.

Other works include:

When the Legends & Lore are Rewritten in The Eternals

Getting to know that many “heroes” in this ten people team known as The Eternals is exhausting!

Eternals (2021) - IMDbSpoiler Alert

Marvel Studios release and ‘s take on The Eternals isn’t very exciting when the heroes aren’t fully recognizing how they “changed” classical mythology. They were told to go into hiding as soon as they finished dealing with a space alien threat sent to prevent a birthing of sorts. The prime directive is to avoid interacting with the native species of Earth, humans, but the damage is done. There were witnesses.

After defeating the wolf-like invaders, the Deviants, sent by a cosmic overlord to destroy ancient man, this group parted ways. We don’t really know if all of them went underground or got involved with the cultures that lived nearby. I suspect a few did, and it explains why their names persist in history. I kept on wondering, “Where’s Hercules?” (Yes, he’s in the Marvel Comics canon and is an Avenger)

Shang Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings, A Movie Review

This film feels more like an obligatory product that had to be made because of Black Panther’s success

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Wuxia movies are a dime a dozen. To stand out requires a proper vision. Somehow Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (SCLotR) lack the sense of feeling like an Asian film. It’s produced by Chinese-Americans, who are probably two generations removed from their heritage. Instead of earning their wings on some feudal period piece for television in Shanghai (or Hong Kong), they only have the approval of Disney to produce this piece.

This film begins nicely enough, with bits from Jackie’s Chan’s The Myth and Forbidden Kingdom mixed in, but somehow in the tale’s progression, it turns into something like a Black Widow type of film.

How to Be A Black Widow Isn’t Easy in MCU’s Latest

As a stand-alone product, Black Widow is a very moody film.

Spoiler Alert

The long wait to understand why Black Widow is who she is gets muddled on the big screen. I’ve known about her origins by reading the graphic novel collections and consulting the Internet. To finally see her solo adventure in cinema is more of a let’s stick to the MCU tradition: Every hero needs his or her solo adventure, and let’s try not to riff off of Captain America: Civil War too much.

We’ve seen snippets of this superspy’s training from past films. To know how these past scenes and other bits play to her psychology isn’t examined. I was hoping part of the tale would flashback to specific moments of her life and lead up to how she died in Avengers Endgame. Sadly, this would mean viewers would have to know those past movies. There’s no guarantee everyone would understand when the film ends with her broken body, and the last words from her lips muttering, “No regrets…” It can work had it started as an intro, and reference those movies so some fans can go rewatch them again. Movies that are built through flashbacks can be done.

The Science with Spider-Man, Far From Home and My Wishlist with the MCU

What we see in Spider-Man Far From Home is pure comic book joy. The big moments are taken right from the books and various Spider-Man cartoons and they were wildly imaginative.

Spider-Man Far From Home Movie PosterSpoiler Alert

Spider-man: Far From Home is an action-packed fun-filled ride that’s less about being an epilogue to Avengers Endgame and more about Peter Parker (Tom Holland) growing up. The explanations of those returning from nothing gets explained very conveniently and felt more like a tacked on response.

At the same time, this movie also very similar to the first one as Petey leaves New York to stay with the decathlon team when trouble keeps on showing up–whether he likes it or not! (and also tries to get used to new Spidey suits)

Just who disappeared in the main and supporting cast of Sony’s Spider-Man universe show no trauma of being displaced. We know from the main Marvel Cinematic Universe films that people were emotionally affected by the sudden disappearances. The discourse in Far From Home went by too fast before jumping into a story about a small group of high school students going on summer vacation.

Avengers: Endgame After Effects

Avengers: Endgame Movie PosterBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

While Avengers Endgame is a very satisfying blockbuster and cinematic experience, a lingering thought may well be in the minds of some. Could The Russo Brother‘s time travel story be avoided? I’m not entirely against their idea, but I feel to use a traditional science-fiction solution to solve all problems is not all that creative.

The obligatory break is provided as I delve into heavy spoiler territory. Continue reading “Avengers: Endgame After Effects”
