Top 5 Hosts Who Love Their Paranormal (and Conspiracies Too!)

Not everyone in the video blogging or network universe has the talent to keep me engaged with talks about the esoteric. Whether that’s with alternate history, the paranormal or aliens, after a decade of regularly watching a variety of programs, I can name my favourite hosts!

top 5 hosts of the esotericWhen the wait for new network episodes of alien curiosities and conspiracies feels long, I’m sure other folks have looked elsewhere for their fix. Whether that’s on YouTube, Paraflixx or Gaia, there are plenty of services to search for. As for who are the best hosts depends on their ability to convince, charm and persuade. When the list of programs is vast, there’s no number one show to explore every single subtopic out there. Neither is there one individual who can cover it all.

This list follows the above listed criteria along with the individual’s willingness to appear on-screen. When I discover some video podcasts use AI-generated art and sometimes a digital voiceover, I’m not as keen to watch. I need to see these people offer his or her sincerity to be interested. When the series shows them taking part in the action, that’s more of a solid sell than anything else. Even though they may be on the sidelines sometimes, that’s okay.

Missing Persons and Grisly Murders. When Expedition Files Opens Up Old Case Files Once More.

It’s less about the destinations these days for Josh Gates, doing host duty for Discovery Channel’s latest, Expedition Files.

Expedition Files with Josh Gates as HostBetween Expedition Unknown, Expedition X and Expedition Files, it’s safe to say Josh Gates is keeping my interest in Discovery Channel‘s programming alive. When the latter offers deeper looks into cold cases rather than simply old which includes new theories on who is to blame, I’m hooked! In the first episode, Travis Walton’s alien abduction is explored. And I’m glad this series is not regurgitating the same ol’ material. What’s key to this segment is that Gates spoke to the man to see how he’s doing now.

As for Charles Augustus Lindbergh Jr’s grisly death, speculation is still rampant. What’s offered here suggests his father was into eugenics! Revelations could tarnish this family’s legacy, but until conclusive evidence emerges, everything remains mere allegations.

Let’s Experience Chillingham Castle on Halloween! (Are The Frights Real Anymore?)

This Halloween, Chillingham Castle gets all the love as this location may well be the only place guaranteed to send shivers down any visitor’s spine!

Chillingham Castle GhostlyTo name what the top ten most haunted places are in the world is subjective, and what we offer has criteria to fulfil: has there been any archaeological style updates at these locales recently? I think the only location is Chillingham Castle, a time-honoured favourite. Investigators mostly work on gathering evidence to justify why a location is haunted, and the experience will vary.

In the entertainment medium, I have seen no advertising campaigns for Ghostober this year. Discovery Plus and TRVL Channel may well be losing customers because of the lack of new content. Some analysts are saying one network will go off air, and fans of this genre will have to head to YouTube or ParaFlixx for their fix. Though I find the latter service lacks the production quality of the nicely funded shows, the heart is in the right place even though the charisma of the talents is hit-and-miss.

And as I searched for something recent to enjoy this week, only one YouTube documentary stood out as fresh. It’s an impressive look at why some people love the classic ghost story, especially before Shakespeare turned the genre upside its head into the form we love now:

What to Watch with Josh Gates Guiding the Expeditions for Halloween

Josh Gates Live! - Mayo Performing Arts CenterVery few shows cannot match the enthusiasm that host, Josh Gates, extols when on an expedition. He rose to fame with Destination Truth on SyFy. This paranormal reality show saw him travel around the world and try to to find some evidence that those places are haunted. There are no easy pickings of which episodes are the best as the show is more about watching and listening to him provide the stories. With Discovery Plus available in more countries, this host’s filmography is nearly entirely available online for people to see.

These days, he’s one of the kings of the pop culture talk show scene with Josh Gates Presents. He delves into the fandom rather than the folklore. This show emerged during the pandemic crisis as he could not travel, and it’s become part of my weekly ritual when a new episode. The format is very clearly a platform to pimp out Discovery Channel’s other programs, and I’m okay with it. Oddly, nothing’s advertised this week for All Hallow’s Eve, so I’ll have to look at older episodes, to get into the spirit, like:

Josh Gates’ Expedition Launches into Real Life Mysteries. A Review

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Josh Gates is one of those media personalities/presenters who has done more to fuel the proverbial fires of controversy with such shows like Destination Unknown in his search for cryptozoological and supernatural creatures. Maybe he has found evidence proving other beasts, namely the Yeti, exists but he cannot reveal it lest the textbooks get rewritten. Love his style or not, namely a paranormal reality program called Stranded (that’s a clone of MTV’s Fear), this daring adventurer can shrug off misfires and continue on with new escapades.

His bravado is what makes him adorable on-screen and his sense of humour is what draws many people into watching. There’s a lovable goofy charm about him when he steps into other worlds in his quest for finding answers to mysteries nearly impossible to solve. And when that includes guest appearances in Fact or Faked and Ghost Hunters, trying to appear credible is hardly ever an issue for him.
