A Filthy Lot, From Startup to Vancouver’s Variety Channel for Gamers and Nerds Alike

Gemma knows that A Filthy Lot is walking into this with their eyes wide open. “You hope for big success out of the gate–of course you do–but, I know it’s going to take five years,” he realistically said.

2023 Update: This company has rebranded post-pandemic to QuestCoast Studios

A Filthy Lot Entertainment is a relatively new North Vancouver based company who encourages content creators to just do it. A Filthy Questline is one of their three channels (the others are the main, an anything goes, and comedy channel) where talents can show off their love for pop culture. Whether that’d be with comic book movies, board games, video games or role-playing, there’s a lot more to this company than meets the eye.

Christopher Livingston is the CEO and Trevor Gemma is the CCO of this company. Before creating this company, they both had careers in the local film/television scene. The former was a lighting technician but he wanted to produce. Part of his credits include The Killing, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl and Pirates of the Caribbean 5. The latter was an actor with the desire to craft his own productions. From a local cult hit Gutterballs to The Little Mermaid, a horror film, to Riese the Series (web) his success was as varied as the wind that guides him. The two met during production of Riese

“It was a magical little web series everyone became friends on, which doesn’t happen very often in the film. I’ve made a lot of long-term friends there, including Chris, Nadav, and Mischa, who were with us when we started the company,” said Gemma.

The Deets on AFL’s Ready to Roll D&D Debut!

The deets on A Filthy Lot Enertainment’s “Ready to Roll” Dungeons and Dragons webseries debut is here. And it includes everything you need to know about the world of Altero but were afraid to ask.

A Filthy Lot Entertainment Inc (AFL) is “Ready to Roll” with their in-house team playing Dungeons and Dragons. The watch party will begin on National D&D Day, Nov 5th, at 3:30pm (PST) on Twitch! They’ll also offer some pretty cool prizes post episode for those who can answer the tough trivia. Who knows, maybe the answers are tucked within the reveals in the information presented here too.

Instead of bringing recognizable personalities to play the game on YouTube, this show brings talents from all walks of life together–mostly those who moved to Vancouver, BC to pursue a career in the film or entertainment industry–to enjoy the game as its always been designed for: to have fun, sling a sword and throw spells around. “They tried in the past with a cartoon and a movie in 2002 to make D&D into a cinematic experience, but the biggest mistake is that they scripted it. D&D is often improvised,” said Chris Livingston and Trevor Gemma, founders of this company.

What will be presented is how ‘As the world of Altero turns.’ Roz Young and Matt Baker created this techno-fantasy realm that the AFL senior staff took a liking to and want to realize as a series. “The main global conflict is the fight for technology and magic dominance, related control over the portals that link parts of this world for fast travel but also to the alternate dimension, where tech can be fused with magic,” said the creators. “Orleana is the country that controls most of the portals and the link from Altero Nought to Altero Prime.”

When Stranger Things and D&D’s Adventure Party Grows…

As for how writers Jody Houser and Jim Zub plans to wrap things up in this Stranger Things Dungeons and Dragons comic, I’m guessing the next issue will pick up from where this left off.

Will, Mike, Dustin and Lucas think life is back to normal, but I suspect the Upside Down has other plans. We just don’t see it just yet, until a crack breaks reality. Just what lies beyond it could be anything, and as anyone knows–from season two to which this tale takes place after–someone has to seal the rift, that crack from one dimension to another. Thankfully it’s been closed, and now the boys bring in Eleven and Maxine to the game of Dungeons and Dragons. The artwork of Diego Galindo fantstically shows that the girls aren’t all that enthused.

The theme remains consistent with how everyone must back each other if they are to succeed. But this time, there are other forces who can hamper their progress. Hooper finally makes an appearance in this tale, and Eleven shows she’s not in full control of her psionic abilities.

A Look into Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons #2

The game of Dungeons and Dragons is an escape for Will. But for others, even in this issue, they are showing signs of wanting to change hobbies.

A lot of time has passed between issues one and two of Stranger Things and Dungeons & Dragons comic. In the second chapter, the events of the live-action season one have passed. Will is not on equal footing anymore, and his only comfort zone is in escaping to the world of Dungeons and Dragons. No reference to the cartoon is made, but I’m betting this reference is coming.

When Stranger Things Hit Dungeons and Dragons Dead On

I get the sense that each issue of Stranger Things and Dungeons and Dragons will not only follow the boy’s life through school but also trace this game’s legacy up to but before advanced edition.

Anyone who wants to know how Dungeons and Dragons enriched the lives of the boys from Stranger Things are advised to pick up the comic book! Jody Houser and Jim Zub‘s tale is familiar. Although they are not yet fully a team (Dustin joins in the fun midway), I remember how I was introduced to the game by my friends and how I scrimped for money to buy the various editions. Although this tale sees them play in the school cafeteria and the clubhouse, I had the school library of all places!

The game introduced me to the fantastic. It eventually led to me discovering the myths and legends that inspired this game—including how it inspires the modern day pop culture—and I never looked back. I loved exploring the past and started writing about the fantastic. Back then, one of my favourite films was Dragonslayer.

On Why We Truly Need A Dungeons and Dragons Augmented Reality Game

We need a mobile game that encourages team play throughout.

10+ Free Augmented Reality & Virtual Reality Photos - PixabayBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

Very few mobile augmented reality games are truly cooperative multiplayer experiences and the only recognized version of that on tabletop is Dungeons and Dragons. For example: wouldn’t it be better for friends to gather to walk a dinosaur than one? Owen Grady can barely do it in Jurassic Park. Without help, he’d be dead meat. In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, the only time players truly band together is during tower challenges.

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic changed this particular part of the game, I’ve been finding random players to join up with far more easily. Pokémon GO has become a touch more couch potato friendly for players with access to gyms that are within eyesight.

Whatever the franchise is, I like to have a game where players solve virtual tasks together instead of always fighting an opponent. That is, we need a mobile game that encourages team play throughout. Wizards Unite has shown how one profession can be weaving healing spells in the background while others are fighting. When considering developers have figured out how teamwork can be done realizing, turning Wizards of the Coast (formerly TSR)’s flagship product, D&D, is a natural next step!

Dungeons & Dragons' in AR Teased by Wizards of the Coast StudioWotC’s Digital Games Studio teased at AR products for the pen and paper game, and it’s not the same as as having a standalone product. Niantic is trying to build a global AR alliance so this technology can go into new places. The current global mission in Pokemon GO is a great example of a Dungeons and Dragons style Living Campaign.

The company hopes players worldwide will accomplish an enormous task of doing two million mega raid to unlock the next Mega Pokemon. I can only imagine Temple of Elemental Evil being challenged by multiple parties to defeat a huge foe. Instead of focusing on dungeon crawling, why can’t we have more players working together to deal with a global threat?

World of Warcraft - Download

What can be played overlaid in our real world can include Blizzard’s Diablo. With IV coming, this company is not likely to develop for the mobile world soon. However, the producers can consider Worlds of Warcraft since the concept of wandering around and killing things (than catching) can be appealing for those who can distinguish fantasy from reality. The ESRB rating will have to be heavily plastered as a warning sign, but designing such a game can be done. Just look at Ghostbusters World!

As long as the graphics don’t overshadow the game, anything is possible. Blizzard was considering it, but there’s been no new further updates since the idea was reported at UploadVR.com. Getting gamers to explore the real world versus augmented can get amusing. It’d be funny (or exciting) to meet the person named BeggingforBagels. Just look at Ready Player One

The Witcher: Monster Slayer' Walkthrough: How to Kill the Griffin Boss

The upcoming Witcher, Monster Slayer game shows it’s possible to interact with non-player characters. The teasers show how sword play has been translated over and this is the only part of the game I’m excited for. Honestly, we don’t need another clone of Pokémon Go where you’re just collecting and leveling up. Imitation of another company’s property is not helping the AR gaming industry any.

The best multiplayer experience is still with Ingress when players negotiate how to expand zones of control. I can see this idea being changed around to see characters from different alignments owning different parts of the world. Fantasy fiction is often about good versus evil more than anything else.

Because of the COVID pandemic, to have a game where social gatherings are encouraged will not be immediately welcomed. It can be developed now so that when this situation is under control, we can have small meetings–players forming dungeon raiding parties–to handle scenarios (community days) under a mobile situation. All we need is for Wizards of the Coast to update Dungeons and Dragons past its pen and paper beginnings for today’s mobile generation!
