Holy Heart attack Batman! Can I keep my beating organ at a steady rate when Zack Snyder, director of the Batman Vs. Superman feature film, reveals the newest incarnation of the Batmobile tomorrow? In all honesty, I’ll try. But I make no guarantee I won’t need a defibrillator when Gotham’s sick ride is made known.
Batman Vs. Superman is currently set to debut May 6, 2016 and will star Ben Affleck (Bruce Wayne / Batman), Henry Cavill (Clark Kent / Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Gal Gadot (Diana Prince / Wonder Woman), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), and Jeremy Irons (Alfred).
Ever since Smallville, the formula for this specific sub-genre of superhero based television shows is to focus in on the hero’s youthful beginnings. There had been attempts to make a spin-off, namely with the aborted Aquaman series, but ever since then, to create a winning formula is tough. Thankfully Arrow altered the concept some–the series looks at the man as his status of a hero gets cemented in lore. Some fans thought the show was essentially Batman in disguise, since licensing at either DC or Warner Bros would not approve of a small screen version.
Bring on Fox TV’s Gotham, which thankfully changes all the previous fandom talk around. Almost like the predecessors, this series looks at the lives of many heroes and villains before they become the feared individuals from the comics. This television program may air this Fall. The company green-lit this production only a few days ago, so hopefully the product will not be rushed to meet this coming season. The wait for a polished product will be worth it, and many DC fans will be excited for what the teaser trailer is suggesting. The casting of the supporting characters looks very spot on.
Robin Lord Taylor will be a character to follow as the befuddled Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, Camren Bicondova will certainly give Selina Kyle a punk-style aesthetic to please fans, and Cory Michael Smith will dominate as the enigmatic Riddler to create a certain unique carnage in a crime ridden Gotham. The list does the end there. The trailer shows that Poison Ivy (Clare Foley) will be part of this youthful foray. The trailer suggests the possibility that she spends her time locked up in the attic with her plants.
This series will deal with Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) as a primary character. The first episode will reveal him taking the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) under his wings and along with Alfred (Sean Pertwee), both will shape who this boy will eventually become. As for how much of an importance the young boy will be in the series, that is still unknown as very little press information has been released.
Instead of the heroes and villians, Gordon may well be the glue that keeps this series together.
DC Comic’s holy triumvirate will kickstart the movie universe right in the shins and hopefully race on ahead to plans for a Justice League film. As for whether or not that will work is not the question right now. Instead, the attention will be on giving Wonder Woman the love thats needed in a mostly machismo universe. That’s been established with the recent reboot of Superman and in fitting in with the continuity that started with Christopher Nolan’s Batman.
But with Zack Snyder behind this product, the information that Israeli-born actress Gal Gadot will be playing a warrior-princess from Themyscira is exciting. She is best known for playing Gisele Harabo in the Fast and the Furious film series and this model won the title of Miss Israel in 2004. To have a foreign presence is fitting since this character is from the Mediterranean area. But little is known about this actress since her filmography is relatively on the short side. Her online bio states she served the Israeli Army for a time and this experience will no doubt serve her well when she starts training to really look the role.
But after this film, her presence in Hollywood will no doubt be on the rise.
Huzzahs and hurrahs was no doubt heard throughout San Francisco and on the Internet when young Miles Scott heard the pleas from Chief of Police Greg Suhr and went out to save the day! Everyone was with him at every step of the way, and a lot of people world-wide were no doubt watching. As it turns out, the Penguin and Riddler got involved, and Bat-Kid (Miles) did more than his civic duty to prevent crime from spreading across Gotham …
And good news are indeed on top of this week as various reports have come in to tell the world that young Scott is on the path of recovery. Over at Otaku no Culture, we wish him nothing but the best! Good times and bright times are in store for you, Caped Crusader!
A video summary of all the events that transpired last Friday can be found on Vimeo and SFGate. The following is a Youtube post by News 24H.
Just how often can anyone get to be a superhero? There are plenty of regular heroes working everyday to keep a city safe from crime and crisis. There are even all those television reality shows that showcases people with extraordinary abilities, but perhaps the real troopers are those who are fighting a daily battle with certain diseases that are still tough to defeat. To see them stay positive throughout the ordeal is what makes them the Über-hero: 5-year old Miles Scott is fighting leukemia and his wish is to become Bat-Kid with all the perks associated with it.
With the help of the Make-a-Wish Foundation: San Francisco Chapter and the guidance of Batman, Miles will get to hang out with his hero and learn how to fight crime. And on November 15th, the City of San Francisco is going to transform into Gotham. This new dynamic duo will save a damsel-in-distress and prevent a super criminal from executing a heinous crime. A nefarious criminal has plans on stealing Lou Seal, the baseball mascot of the San Francisco Giants.
Holy posable! Fans of the 60’s series must take a look at the figures of the dynamic duo from Hot Toys.
These figures of Batman and Robin are modeled after the 1966 Batman movie (rather than the series) and they come with nifty accessories.
The figures are crafted in 1/6th scale and have 30 points of articulation. Batman is approximately 30cm tall while Robin is 28cm.
They are expected to ship in Q2-Q3, 2014. They carry a hefty price tag but I must say that the look of the figures themselves are incredible. I’m not a toy collector to the extent that others are, but I may change my mind on these two. Maybe I’ll even acquire a museum-quality glass display case just for these figures as the start of a small collection.
