The bodies are piling up (or rather the guests are) and unlike zombies of television and film these bodies will be alive and well as they walk around (or sit comfortably) at the 2015 Emerald City Comicon (ECCC).

One of those bodies (guests) just announced by the ECCC is actor and voice artist Steven Yeun. Yeun is known better as Glenn Rhee on AMC’s television series The Walking Dead. He has also appeared in TV series Law and Order: LA, Warehouse 13, The Big Bang Theory and the film My Name Is Jerry starring Doug Jones.

Yeun has also used his talent to voice characters in the Crysis video game series as well as animated series The Legend of Korra (Wan), American Dad, and he will be voicing the lead character of Tony Chu in the upcoming adaptation of Image Comics’ Chew.

Steven Yeun will be appearing at the convention Saturday and Sunday only.

[Seattle, WA] Emerald City Comiccon is ‘Shipp’ing out to be Spectacular

The Emerald City of the Pacific Northwest is certainly becoming “Central” because of the lineup of DC heroes coming to its comic convention in March 27-29 2015. Hopefully this show will not go by too fast because of its ever-increasing lineup of celebrities who played comic book characters. The lineup now includes John Wesley Shipp (The Flash) as the latest name to join this cadre.

This fine actor never slowed down after the 90’s The FlashEmerald City Comiccon television program was sadly cancelled. For its time, that was one of the finest adaptations that really worked on the small screen. It won accolades as being a fun program to watch, especially with Mark Hamill fine-tuning his vocal talent before the animated Batman series would take hold and cement him as a talent as The Joker.

For Shipp, he continued working in television by appearing in favourites like NYPD Blue, JAG and Dawson’s Creek. Twenty years will pass before his return to the comic book world by becoming the voice of Professor Zoom in an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and a few more before he was cast to be Henry Allen in CW’s 2014 update, The Flash.

Other celebrities who have been seen in comic book to television/movie crossovers include John Barrowman (Arrow), LeVar Burton (Star Trek: The Next Generation, Captain Planet and the Planeteers), Susan Eisenberg (voice of Wonder Woman), Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Anthony Mackie (Captain America: Winter Soldier), Patrick Warburton (The Tick). Many more greats will be at Emerald City Comiccon, and amongst the vocal talents, this author will have to wonder how many of them will lend their voice when the Star Wars Trilogy: The Radio Play continues. This panel is worth waiting in line for; the zaniness and what these voice actors can ad lib, should they flub their lines, is hilarious!

The Guardians of the Galaxy Gets Animated for 2015!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Guardians of the GalaxyThe writing was on the wall six months ago, ever since the cartoon, Avengers Assemble brought on “Guardians and the Space Knights” last April and Ultimate Spider-Man going into space with “The Guardians of the Galaxy” a month after. Although these animations did not feature the voice cast of the movie, die-hard fans who knew what was coming had to wonder. Once when the live-action film’s success was affirmed, Spidey saw the “Return of the Guardians of the Galaxy” with affirmation made today that a cartoon series is in the works and it will debut next year on Disney XD.

The success of the film is what truly cemented this go-ahead. The question of whether or not the film’s stars will lend a voice is iffy at best, but it would be a boon to fans if Marvel Entertainment can reach an agreement with the performers. Since Jay Baruchel is pivotal to the success of both the How to Train Your Dragon films and Dragons, the spin-off TV series, hopefully the producers will see fit to allow both the toon and live action product blend in.

Patrick Warburton Announced for Emerald City 2015

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

PatrickWarburtonThat’s right fans, The embodiment of The Tick will be making his appearance at Seattle’s Emerald City Comicon in 2015.

As The Tick he was the perfect casting choice in Ben Edlund’s live action series of the same name, but as Patrick Warburton he is the perfect casting for any animated series. Like voice artists Len Carlson and Bill Reiter before him, Warburton has a distinctive voice that adds to his existing comic flair.

Warburton’s lengthy animated credits span both TV, film and video game. In the TV world he is known for the characters Joe Swanson (Family Guy), Buzz Lightyear (Buzz Lightyear of Star Command), Brock Samson (The Venture Bros.) and Sheriff Bronson Stone (Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated). On the silver screen he has created the roles of Kronk (The Emporer’s New Groove), Pulaski (Planes: Fire & Rescue) and Agamemnon (Mr. Peabody & Sherman). Warburton has also become loved by gamers for his roles as Mozer (Metal Arms: Glitch In the System), Damone (Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust) and Hugo Vasquez (Tales from the Borderlands).

[Victoria Fringe Festival ’14] Finding Transcendence with the Selkie Tales, A Review

Through the power of myth, a cultural discourse of any country can be found in the stories of yore. Some legends may inspire a transformative change of the self whereas others look deep into a collective experience that many readers can find, if not relate to. In other cases, they serve to explain the power of a greater cosmic force at work. In folklore, traditions are explored, and sometimes what is experienced is more of a sensory exposition.

In Selkie Tales, grief and loss are explored in a whimsical journey of what the seal-folk of Scotland (a type of faerie) have contributed to the richness of this bonnie land’s mystique. These creatures are similar to mermaids/mermen. But they appear as seals when in the ocean and when they shed their skin upon reaching land, will look just like another human.

Karen Gillan to appear at ECCC 2014!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Emerald City Comicon announced today that Karen Gillan will be at this year’s show on Sunday. That’s great for a busy actress whose next big role will be Nebula in Marvel Entertainment’s Guardians of the Galaxy, due in theatres August. But for the rest of the world, she is best known for playing Amy Pond in Doctor Who.

As for what she will be available for during the convention — panels, photo ops or autographs — no official word is given. The best advice is to check out the ECCC 2014 webpage when schedules get posted. That’s usually a week before the event. But as for tickets, the best plan is to have pick up tickets sooner than later since they have been selling out through online sales fast.
