From Dragon Master to Dragon Knight. Can Kung Fu Panda Regain His Honour?

Kung Fu Panda The Dragon Knight is better than Legends of Awesomeness because we have a stronger ongoing narrative.

Spoiler Alert

Po (Jack Black) has to make “The Journey to the West” in true Monkey King fashion if he’s to regain his honour. In the latest entry to the Kung Fu Panda franchise, he’s neither the Dragon Master nor the Dragon Knight (the title of this latest series) because his tomfoolery destroyed a village. Also, he let it lose its most precious protected relic to two weasels. If he can’t recover the stolen WuGao Gauntlet with Luthera of Landreth (Rita Ora), a bear from England, then he’ll have a lot more to lose. But this female knight has problems too.

If this plot sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve seen it before in Avatar: The Last Avatar and Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. It combines ideas from the early seasons. One is in finding your true potential all over again. To see Po wanting to see people to have faith in him is far more important than the other arc about saving the world from a Thanos level threat.

Conjuring Kesha Isn’t All That Scary or Compelling

Conjuring Kesha isn’t all that compelling. The places this singer and friends visit are chosen because this hostess wants to go there with little preparation beforehand!

Conjuring Kesha
Available to Stream on Discovery Plus

Kesha wants to be more than a musician these days. Now, she’s a wannabe ghost hunter in Conjuring Kesha—if that’s what she is doing. Instead of entertaining listeners with her good vibrations, she wants to make it weird. All she’s getting from these visits is the experience of getting spooked. This pseudo Reality TV program is allegedly a continuation of this singer’s short-lived podcast, Kesha and the Creepies, and if this show is any indication, I can’t wait to see her appear in the cartoon series, Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? (should it get a third season).

I suspect the idea to produce both series didn’t come to mind after appearing in The Haunting of eight years ago. She presented herself differently and I like this show more. It’s a lot more realistic than what’s shown in Conjuring Kesha. This new show feels like, in essence, to be very much like The Osbournes: Night of Terror.

Before this occupational switch, she’s an EDM superstar. Because of this, I knew she would eventually sing. However, I can’t tell if her voice will wake the dead. To be fair, I had to watch more than four episodes to see if that’d happen. Instead, the last two episodes saw her go camping in the woods at Mount Shasta, where she hopes to meet bigfoot! It’s a shame she didn’t go visit Devil’s Tower, where it served as a backdrop to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. She would have better luck for a supernatural meet-up there!

The latest concerns the Odd Fellows Lodge in Illinois–to which I doubt all the meeting places are equally haunted. Nothing was said about how this association has Lodges everywhere around the world and they aren’t necessarily a secret society. I have to wonder what other members elsewhere thinks. Between this outing (which offers nothing new when compared to other paranormal reality tv shows) and past, I can’t say I’ll bother with the finale, unless we hear from the news she’s quit because of some recent encounter giving her grey hair.

Spooked Scotland is Mostly Popcorn Style Scary Shananigans

Spooked Scotland has nothing new to add other than to see the host being placed in uncomfortable situations.

Most people know the United Kingdom is the most paranormally active sovereign collective in the world. Here, each separate country is freaky in its own unique way, and it’s about time there’s a show about Spooked Scotland. This series is very similar to other shows. As it is in now mid-season, I can finally remark about which aspects of its production works or not.

The good news is that this paranormal reality tv show offers a lot of interesting locales. Gail Porter is the host, and Chris Fleming is the lead investigator. Tech specialist Ryan O’Neill and parapsychologist Dr. Evelyn Hollow round out their team. Long time fans of this genre may remember the leads from Dead Famous, which ran from 2004 to 2006. However, as with every program that’s out there, they have their fair share of critics. I don’t believe celebrities should be chased down to see if they’re still lingering around. When Harry Houdini can’t make the greatest escape of them all, then some things are best left buried.

Ms. Marvel’s On That Lonely Road of the Gypsy

Ms. Marvel Promotional TV PosterAvailable to View on Disney Plus
Spoiler Alert

How many Marvels exist in the MCU? With the release of Ms. Marvel on Disney Plus, it’s safe to say she’ll join the ranks of even more characters with Marvel as part of their name. That is, we’re expecting Marvel Girl aka Jean Grey to arrive next. But for now, a miniseries about a young Pakistani girl, Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), having a rough go at life at home and in school.

After the damage wrought in the past MCU films, nowhere is safe. In Jersey City, this youth is just living the typical life of being just another face. Her parents want her safe from this terror and will do anything to protect their little girl. Continue reading “Ms. Marvel’s On That Lonely Road of the Gypsy”

A Bold New Look with Star Trek’s Strange New Worlds

Star Trek Strange New Worlds is almost a return to form even though it exists within the rebooted Kelvin timeline.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds poster features the classic USS EnterpriseStreaming on Paramount+

Some long time fans of Star Trek might investigate the latest, Strange New Worlds (SNW). It’s almost a return to form. Not everyone will take to it, and I’ve spoken to a few of my friends who are steadfast in their opinion in our nerd chats. To be specific, since it’s part of the rebooted Kelvin timeline, there’s no true link with Gene Roddenberry’s creation.

Co-showrunner Henry Alonso Myers wanted to produce Star Trek in the way it was originally done, and this series honours that aspect. The stories have given Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Spock (Ethen Peck) and crew more backstory to character development to appreciate. At least the direction is off to a good start.

Behind the Mac and Magic: The Mystery of Skywalker Sound is Free to View

Available to watch on Apple’s YouTube channel is Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound. This mini-documentary released today in honour of Star Wars Day

Behind the Mac Skywalker SoundAvailable to watch on Apple’s YouTube channel is Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound. This mini-documentary released today in honour of Star Wars Day goes behind the scenes in what goes on in at this studio. We see more than how some of those magical sounds are made. We get insights into an aspect of the movie-making process that makes the filimed footage come alive.

Additionally, we see the technology used to fine tune the raw vibrations to what audiences hear in that film! Some of it may seem surprisingly low tech, but for the high, it’s no surprise Apples are used. Logic Pro is the software of choice at this studio. And from what I can notice, the servers look like they’re Apple G5s!

This video is a terrific watch to see how sound and image all gets put together. It may even perhaps inspire those who want to work in the movie-making industry to take up a position as a foley artist. Although some may argue Skywalker Sound desire to be fully digital will kill this position (please read my review of Actors of Sound here), I think this profession will be always be around in one form or another. Behind the Mac: Skywalker Sound nicely tells us why we need people who take ‘psycho acoustics’ seriously. They are the folks who’ll be out there in the natural and synthetic environment to record the next big thing. Who knows, maybe that sonic boom will be put in the next movie we’re about to see on the big screen.
