Anyone who has followed Gantz will find a lot of familiarity with the concept. When a young teen accidentally dies, instead of moving on to their next life, they awaken in a type of limbo where they have to prove their worth. From the original tale set in modern day Japan to a side-story and now a historical action drama, this crazy R.I.P.D. cum Predator concept has elements to like, and danger to gasp at. The creators adapted it to anime, but reading the original story remains unsurpassed.

From the Press Release:

Gantz, the powerful manga series from creator Hiroya Oku, has garnered a massive following since it debuted in 2000 and became a pillar of the action genre. Dark Horse Manga has brought Gantz to English in 37 traditional tankobon style paperback volumes, which have been collected into 12 omnibus volumes that gather multiple chapters in one.

Sakamoto Days. Is It Safer To Stay At Home Rather Than Hide Behind A Facade?

Although this series is primarily an action-comedy, to learn about what this shopkeeper did before changing to this profession is important. Sakamoto Days follows this individual simply trying to please as many people as he can!

Taro is an assassin, and in the aptly titled Sakamoto Days, it seems he’s always in a daze when at work, at a local convenience store! Although officially retired, the world he left behind has a grudge. For newcomers and vets, both can earn some cred when they put this individual six feet under. Although that’s going to be the formula for the time being in this series, I’m sure he’s plotting something behind that facade.

In the first episode, Shin Asakura (Nobunaga Shimazaki) simply botches his attempt to take the former hitman (Tomokazu Sugita) down. And in what’s amazing is that this big guy will show him the error of his ways. Just how the young kid found senpai wasn’t hard. And if he can do it, many more will follow. After two episodes showing just how many assassins are going to show up, I have to see just how varied these others’ talent are going to be. In what makes this work accessible is that it’s not taking the idea to violent Kill Bill levels.

Gatchaman at Mad Cave Studios. The Story So Far…

Fans of Gatchaman (not Battle of the Planets) will love everything that’s being developed to bring this original sentai team to the modern audiences! And what I offer is summary of what has transpired since the comic book’s launch mid last year!

Ever since Gatchaman returned to the anime fandom’s radar, I’ve been paying attention. Not only did I want to remind myself of what went on in the animated front before touching the comic book continuation, but also my love for this Space Ninja Team got reignited. Who knows, maybe I can find a model of the God Phoenix at a reasonable price.

The first trade paperback collecting the first six issues is out (Amazon link), and although that did not include the one-shots, that’s okay. I flipped to the back and found out that it will be released later this year. This publisher has been steadily releasing individual issues every month, and what I offer is a quick recap, information about upcoming releases, and/or a review. Spoilers are ahead.
