Inside Tomica 2013

Tomica 2013 has a lot of previews to enjoy and we found a YouTube video that highlights why we love this show.

Tomica is a line of die-cast & model vehicles produced by Takara Tomy Company of Japan. Every year in August they produce a show for families to view moving displays and to see and purchase the latest Tomica vehicles all while being entertained by games and live entertainment.

Tomica 2013 was held this year (as it was last year) at the Makuhari Messe International Convention Complex in Chiba. From September 19 – 22 of this year, Makuhari will become the host of the Tokyo Game Show 2013. TGS 2013 will showcase the world’s best and most exciting in computer entertainment.

Thor’s Day Off in LEGO

LEGO Fanfilms can be hilarious, and this one is Thortastic!

Mad About LEGO brings us this funny little indie short about Thor’s day off from Avengers duties, from being a super hero and from being a Asgardian God.

This short was made with the LEGO Super Heroes Movie Maker for the Apple iPhone. The program was created by Pereira, O’Dell and Uncorked Studios.

Transformers 4 in Detroit: A Bird’s Eye View

This video of the set of Transformers 4 was provided by Andy Olesko. It is the same shooting location in Detroit, Michigan that Otaku no Culture wrote about on July 31st but with a slight difference. This video is using an above view which was shot while standing on a balcony from the location of Andy Olesko’s flat.

With this vantage point the reader can see the true scale of the T4 set that was built.

Guardians Leaked Trailer

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movie trailer could get taken down soon. Take a look at it while it’s still available. From what I have seen there is also a X-Men: Days of Future Past leaked trailer but it appears within half a day it has been removed. The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer is poor quality but you would expect it since it’s source is coming from a geek cam in the crowd.

Characters such as Rocket Racoon, Groot, Rhomann Dey (John C. Reilly), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Star Lord (Chris Pratt) can be seen.

And the song that you hear for the trailer is Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede.

Wind Up Geek’s Top Ten Takedown – Fan Films/Series

I already knew what my favourite fan films were but I needed to broaden my horizon.

In the past decade I’ve come to love fan films for what they are: shoe string budget movies made by people with big hearts for pop/geek culture. Gone are the days where our projects created from scratch (Hardware Wars) or joke dubbed (Ranma⅓) were distributed via VHS/Beta tape. With the  Internet era, it has brought to millions of us who speak Geekese, or if you will in Geekidiom, a whole new stage to show something cool to the world. Now we have places like Youtube and Vimeo to reach a much larger audience.

A look at VicLUG. LEGO and Insider Connections:

LEGO is more than a toy for some, but also a means to form meaningful bonds between individuals who love the brick. At VicLUG, a local club, Ed Sum not only pofiles who these people are but also gives a quick rundown of this toy’s history.

VicLUG TeamOtaku no Culture’s own Ed Sum presents a mini-documentary that quickly looks at the history of LEGO and examines what it means to a bring people together. In this production, he profiles a local group, the Victoria Lego Users Group (VicLUG).

This video was made a few years ago as a final video project when he took the (now defunct) Applied Communications Program (Camosun College), and he’s also interviewed the group! The link to that article can read here.
