Abruptio Takes Viewers Away From the Everyday to the Eerie

Evan Marlow has a terrific movie that uses puppets in all its forms to reveal all that’s Abruptio!

The hyperrealism put behind the puppet horror film Abruptio is perhaps why this movie is called that. Here, we’re looking at a very relatable story—Les Hackel (James Marsters) has nowhere to go in life. He’s in a dead-end job, lives with his parents and recently got dumped by his girlfriend. What takes him out of the everyday humdrum is that he finds a bomb implanted in his neck, and he’s not the only one.

Pretty soon, he’s tasked to carry out tasks if he wants to keep his head, and the jobs differ from what the Suicide Squad does. This film exists somewhere between what defines a thriller and a character study. The look on the human condition is what makes this work become an instant cult-classic!

Lisa Wilcox on Alice and The Nightmare on Elm Street (Part Two)

Tuesday Knight and Lisa Wilcox are just a part of the massive team of ‘Dream Warriors’ from the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise that’ll be appearing at Hex Calgary.

Anyone who has religiously followed the Nightmare on Elm StreetLisa Wilcox (NoES) franchise will recall that Freddie Kruger is out for revenge. He’s after the children of the parents who killed him, and he is a tough presence to destroy. Add on the spinoffs into comic books, he’ll be around forever and he’s hardly a simple spirit.

In Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare, we learn Kruger made a deal with Dream Demons: use fear to feed these malevolent creatures and he can live forever. Fans of the franchise will get to see cast mates from the third and fourth film reunite and talk about their time together at Hex Halloween Expo in Calgary, Alberta–taking place this weekend.

The Fan Expo Vancouver Journals & Movie News Tidbits

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

The organizers of Fan Expo Vancouver have done one right thing for their third show and that’s to expand the hallway space to allow attendees to flow quickly from exhibit hall to panel room. As for back and forth, I have no complaints for the exercise everyone is getting since the path is like navigating the many one-way streets back in Seattle. It will no doubt get some people fuming, but I guess part of the reason is due to Fire Marshal regulations.

But on day one, this discovery does not mask one huge annoyance: the lack of knowledgable volunteers who can direct fans to where they should be standing in line to gain entry. I already made the leap in judgement when I studied the map, but as for whether it was known by anyone else, maybe I was far too nerdy than any of the volunteers. Only the senior staff could direct me and I followed their directions.

[Fan Expo Vancouver] Rue Morgue Magazine’s Festival of Fear Spotlighted!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

festival-of-fear

Rue Morgue Magazine’s Festival of Fear, Westcoast edition is set to take up most of the stage at Fan Expo Vancouver 2014. Last year saw the première of Death Do Us Part, a horror film that is very similar to A Little Bit Zombie in theme — where wedding bell jitters can spell doom.

This year’s spotlight will be on WolfCop, a tale of a police officer who ends up with lycanthropy. And just which kind of masters he can end up serving will become the big question of the day. This movie has the potential to make it big in the cult film market, and the filmmakers will be on hand to answer questions along with other guests to fuel the fire for what can be a wonderfully horrific weekend.
