When It’s Not Two Frozen for Arendelle’s Future

null 14By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Mild Spoiler Alert

“Show Yourself” may not be the definitive musical number to inspire in Frozen 2. Unlike the first film with its spectacular set pieces, this sequel tries too hard to offer refreshing ideas. It’s tough to outdo “Let it Go” because of its many meanings. This sequel at least delivers a story which answers a few questions, has a cultural sub-context which will definitely be of debate for years to come, and looks at how this kingdom continues to survive.

The expected economic examination is ignored. Instead, we find Elsa (Idina Menzel) acting a little off lately. In the side-lines, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) is trying to figure out the perfect moment to propose to Anna (Kristen Bell). As the trailers have shown, the Queen of Arendelle must heed the siren’s call.

Release Date:

Usually there’s at two, and if we’re lucky three, trailers leading up to the release of the most anticipated films for the year. In the case of Disney Frozen 2, we only have two. Part of the appeal is not only with the Broadway style spectacle and musical numbers. For me, it’s the folklore being established. Dark Horse Comics teased at a few elements in its two graphic novels–namely neighbouring kingdoms to which Arendelle is either at peace with (or not).

In looking over the trailers again before opening night, I previously said everything I can with the first release. The second one is a bit more telling. We are introduced to Anna and Elsa’s parents, telling a once upon a time style tale. There was once an enchanted forest. It was magical but something went wrong. Nothing could get in or out because a veil of mist appeared.

New Frozen 2 Trailer Goes North!

Frozen 2 Movie PosterBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

The new teaser trailer for Frozen 2 is exciting for the majesty invoked, and in what it’s telling, Elsa (Idina Menzel) magical powers may have come from other supernatural sources. Or, as the Northern setting suggests, could she be of the faerie folk? I’m only guessing here, but this new offering released today gives fans a lot of reasons to be excited about this film when it plays in theatres in November.

She’s backed by her sister, Anna (Kristen Bell), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), Olaf the snowman (Josh Gad) and Sven the reindeer in a quest to save the kingdom. This time, it’s not from human invaders, but rather supernatural ones. Together, they have to go north perhaps to discover her true nature and find out what granted her these powers. Or was she born with it?

Disney’s Frozen Full Movie Trailer Released & Analysis

PosterLike a gentle snow flurry slowly making its way to cover the countryside, the full trailer for Disney’s Frozen finally arrives State-side (from the UK) to tell fans that this movie is coming November 27th, just in time for American Thanksgiving.

This full preview looks promising. It yields a few fantastic action sequences and a fairy-tale like adventure that will be sure to please audiences of all ages. Complete with the prerequisite second banana to provide the humour, at least some story formulas never change. This product is Disney after all. As for whether or not audiences will warm up to the idea or be icy, that will depend on the point of view.
