A Glimpse at How to Train Your Dragon, The Serpent’s Heir

Solicitations have begun through Diamond Distribution for Dark Horse Comics‘ How to Train Your Dragon: The Serpent’s Heir. This volume goes on sale Feb 15, 2017, but for retailers (comic book shops), they can officially take in orders and the details are in for what to expect. Value-priced at an MSRP of $10.99, there will be 80 pages of goodness to admire. The trade paperback measures 6×9 inches.

Picking up just after the events in How to Train Your Dragon 2, Hiccup, Astrid and company are called upon to assist the people of an earthquake-plagued island. But their lives are imperiled by a madman and an incredible new dragon who even Toothless — the alpha dragon — may not be able to control!

Dean DeBlois and Richard Hamilton are the writers of this comic book tie-in to the upcoming 2018 film. This detail makes owning this volume quintessential for teases in what’s to come in Dreamworks product. For this HTTYD fan, while much of this news has been out for a while now, to see a tease in the advance order catalogue of what’s to come is a first look at the art.

The Dragon’s Eye is No Longer Needed to Race to the Edge

New episodes of Dragons: Race to the Edge are now available on Netflix and months have passed since Hiccup and the Dragon Riders dealt with Viggo Grimborn. This new antagonist has all the makings to be a classic James Bond style of villain and his patience in how to deal with threats to his trade of selling dragons suggests he will be around for most of the saga. I’m curious if he knows Drago from the films, because one episode suggests he is more aware of what’s out there, beyond the Archipelago.

Very little added exploration is taking place in this new season when a threat is nearby. The crew have to fortify their defenses and plan for the eventuality that either Grimborn or a greater threat will attack. But first, and old adversary, Dagur, emerges out of the woodwork and he’s apparently turned over a new leaf. Hopefully the fate given unto him at the mid-season cliffhanger is not certain. This character has received more development than the others in this series, and I’ve grown to like him.

Details on Dark Horse Comic’s All Ages FCBD Sampler for Readers who Missed It

It’s hard to believe two weeks have passed since Free Comic Book Day. I read everything I obtained, and in what I’ve reread several times is in what Dark Horse Comics has planned for continuing the saga in Legend of Korra and How to Train Your Dragon. The further misadventures of Plants vs Zombies is offered too.

No street dates have officially been announced for either yet, but I’m suspecting it should arrive late Summer. Since not everyone may have picked up this sampler, I thought I should offer a detailed look at what was missed.

The teaser offered in Korra is a prelude to the events from the series. Here, readers learn how Korra met her pet and protector, Naga. This tale is very heartwarming and adorable. Many years are not told to show their mutual growth before the episode, “Welcome to Republic City” takes place. If there’s ever a chance to show a cute side to these characters, I hope further misadventures of young Korra will be included in the upcoming comic book release.

This tale is penned by Michael Dante DiMartino, co-creator of the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Die-hard fans will be familiar with his work in the graphic novel continuation of The Last Airbender. He receives full credit in the script in this tale. The youthful exuberance can be felt in this short story, and I hope he will be directly involved in the coming series this comic book company is producing. Heather Campbell illustrated and Vivian Ng coloured this tale, and reading this comic was like watching the animation all over again.

New Episodes and Threats are Abound in Dragons: Race to the Edge

The narrative is hardly wasted in focussing in on small adventures in the latest episodes of Dragons: Race to the Edge. Snotlout even gets some much-needed character development….

Dragons Race to the Edge Screenshot The six month wait is over. Hiccup and his team have new dangers to face and they are not serpentine in this latest release of Dragons: Race to the Edge episodes. They are a trio of war mongers wanting to own the Dragon Eye, a tube capable of displaying images carved inside (on a crystal) and whoever possesses it can use the secrets it contains to threaten everyone living in the Archipelago. Under Hiccup’s care, it can aid. The narrative slowly moves in an engaging direction to show that this series is not based on a simple idea: to train dragons all the time.

A How to Train Your Dragon Franchise Series Update

dragonsracetotheedge The next batch of Dragons: Race to the Edge episodes is long overdue. Netflix is either waiting for the 2015 year to be over or there’s been a delay to get the product done. No official word is made and for followers of the How to Train Your Dragon series, all anyone knows are the episode titles for the next 13 episodes (see below).

When considering other DreamWorks properties have had their batch releases every 5-6 months (All Hail King Julien and The Adventures of Puss in Boots), to not hear of a date for Dragons is unusual. Race to the Edge released June 26, 2015 and based on dates of these other series later package releases, new episodes should have been at least out by November.

The Legend of How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury, a Review & Look into the Saga

Fans of the How to Train Your Dragon book or animated series will no doubt know that two worlds are always going to be at odds with each other. The trust between humans and dragons is difficult, and when these two cultures clash, to find methods to preserve the peace is difficult. This principal message is one that both creator/author Cressida Cowell and writer/director Dean DeBlois have expertly crafted into the this narrative, and that is what makes this Viking saga so enduring. To see how the conflict finally comes to an end in the final book is aptly named How to Fight a Dragon’s Fury.

This novel was released in the UK on Sept 8th. In North America, it will be released in Canada on Oct 20th and in the USA on Nov 3rd. Readers will finally see the finale that’s been built up two books ago. The last three books comprise The Dragon Rebellion story-arc and the rising action only gets better in this last release. Here, the hero Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the Third finally confronts the dragon Furious, who is upset at all the inhumanity done to him and his species.
