With The End of Oak Street, Can New Beginnings Take Place?

For this movie that’s more about family drama, the only thing one can find at The End of Oak Street is how a random event can change things for the better for an aspiring author, who is the heroine of this tale.

The End of Oak Street Movie PosterI have to ask: do audiences really want to watch another dinosaur movie? Most likely, yes, as long as the plot brings something new to the concept. That’s where The End of Oak Street teeters on failure. This is one of those movies that needs a back-end explanation instead of playing out as another too-predictable tale. The trailers give too much away: a stretch of neighbourhood has been teleported away, and the folks caught in the zone have to either become the next Stone Age family or find a way back.

As for how much of Flowervale was sent back, all we know is that a significant chunk is probably Disneyland-sized. The wide shot says it all, and instead of a tight-knit group, we have pockets of confused humans wondering why dinosaurs are lurking in their backyards! As for a plot, all we know is that the Platt family is in dire straits, and they are kind to some neighbours but not others. Denise (Anne Hathaway) and Greg’s (Ewan McGregor) marriage is falling apart, and the kids, after overhearing the problem, are desperate to see their parents work things out.

Obi-Wan Kenobi. After Four Episodes, Is He Damaged Goods or Sadly Something Else?

Now that Obi Wan Kenobi is well past the half-way mark, what I’m discovering is the fact he’s damaged goods.

If I was “Forced” to watch only one series set in the Star Wars universe, it’s no doubt going to be Obi-Wan Kenobi. There’s plenty of past and present products to put on an infinite loop with the PVR, and it’s rare to find a work that successfully bridges the gap between various narratives and returns to the familiar. That is, the tales from this franchise follows a checklist of tropes to appease fans.

One of them means seeing this Jedi weld a lightsaber. But instead, this miniseries doesn’t make use of this weapon right away. It’s more like a classic Cowboys and Indians challenge for the first three episodes, at least. But when we’re dealing with a Jedi Master, he’ll be swinging that lightsaber in no time!

The Prognosis on Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep

Could Dan Torrance (Ewan McGregor) be the Obi-Wan in Doctor Sleep to mentor Abra Stone (Kyliegh Curran)? She’s a gifted psychic who can sense when trouble is afoot! Casting choices and Star Wars references notwithstanding, the sequel looks at what has become of the Torrance family surviving the events of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining. After a very lengthy introduction, I was caught up since it’s been years when I last saw the film.

Danny also has this gift and it’s simply called The Shining. It can be used for good or evil and the movie’s title is explained in what the boy, now a man, has become. He helps the elderly to comfortably pass on with his soothing voice and message of hope.
