It’s The Vintage Tempest’s Hard Rock Christmas Countdown!

I’d rather have a Hard Rock Christmas and I’m not talking about wanting a piece of coal in my stocking.

When the malls are flooded with traditional music to get shoppers into the Christmas mood, I find I need heavy metal or grunge instead to start rocking it. I’d rather have a Hard Rock Christmas and I’m not talking about wanting a piece of coal in my stocking.

When considering my mood won’t always get uplifted by hearing those sleigh bells jingling, ring tingle tingling, and finding the lovely weather is colder than you like, it’s time to get the body moving to stay warm! When it’s time, I’m sure the last track is cozy enough to fall asleep to.

With only days left for that day (instead of counting down from twelve), I offer my picks to listen down to (the order is intentional) as that annual holiday draws near:

Manic Street Preachers
Ghost of Christmas

Not everyone will know of this Welsh rock band, but when I discovered them, I was hooked! Their sound brings a touch of Roy Orbison, The Clash and perhaps Sex Pistols together in a harmony which simply caught my attention. Ghost of Christmas is simply punk at its best.

DVD Release Dec 3rd
NBC Broadcast Dec 14th, 2019

After Thanksgiving is celebrated in the United States of America, a “homecoming” is set for How to Train Your Dragon fans. I’ll be headed to my local Walmart to buy the Bluray and hope there’ll be more than just this animated short. On Amazon, apparently only the DVD release is available.

To see Astrid, Toothless and gang continue to celebrate the yuletide season can mean anything for this aspect of the franchise. This work looks like it’ll reflect upon those wonderful memories in lest we forget. It’s safe to assume the team will get together again.

Getting into the Holiday Spirit with Anna and the Apocalypse

Anna and the Apocalypse is an enjoyable romp around the Christmas tree. There are times we do not know who is chasing whom given the two different villains in this work

Anna and the ApocalypseBy Ed Sum

Anna and the Apocalypse is an enjoyable romp around the Christmas tree and it’s a crazy enough concept where making it a musical works. Plus, there are times we do not know who is chasing whom when considering there are the two different villains. Maybe the ornaments or gifts can prove useful to combat zombies but what about the other obstacles?

Not even playing Michael Jackson’s Thriller can prove to stave them off. I have seen dance-offs in a live performance from a different tale and it’s a marvel to watch. The music was rockin and I wanted to hear more. The melodies in this movie are joyous enough to toe tap but ultimately the focus is with the coming of age story.

In this movie, we are immediately warned of an impending (zombie) epidemic but for the titular character, earnestly played by Ella Hunt, she ignores it. Other stakes are at work; she wants to break out of the expected (to go straight to college) after high school graduation and explore the world. But the destiny has other ideas. The world soon falls apart. The coming of it to the small town of Little Haven in Scotland is inevitable. Before she knows it, everyone she cares for will either succumb or die. Such is the norm for this genre.

Frightening Solstice Treats for the Discerning Comic Book Reader

Solstice and the Yuletide is a great time to cozy up to some ghost stories or a work in the tradition of Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.

Solstice HellboySolstice and the Yuletide is a great time to cozy up to some ghost stories or a work in the tradition of Charles Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers. In this day and age, to decide on what notable classic to warm up to is tough. Perhaps it’s time to expand on what’s available in the supernatural realm as not every year has to be about Krampus and spirits.

In what I offer are upcoming works than previously published. Also, I’m only consider one-shot specials than the annuals. Hellboy may have something to say about why we don’t have enough reading material to enjoy, but he leads this year’s upcoming works that is sure to delight this season.

Hellboy Krampusnacht
Writer: Mike Mignola
Art & Cover: Adam Hughes
Ships Dec 20

Unlike previous year’s specials for the season, this release will offer a one-shot where Hellboy is going up against this alpine creature of Slavic origin. Others may argue Germanic. Perhaps that’s the reason why Krampus is always grumpy. For those who don’t know who this creature is, we have an introduction!

Here, two legends will be locking horns in the worse way possible. In what makes this story special is that it marks Adam Hughes (cover artist for many titles) first contribution to this universe.
