Getting More Into The Mitchells vs the Machines on Home Video

There’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World to be found in The Mitchells vs the Machines. I can rewatch the Netflix film without eating up precious bandwidth, and ‘The Best Features Ever’ is just that. The additional material helped make me appreciate this work a lot more, and to see more Dog Cop helped make my day.

The deleted scenes are more than just short moments. Half of them extend and offer more backstory. I can see why they weren’t brought to production since it’d make the presentation far too long. Other featurettes include “Dog Cop 7: The Final Chapter.” This little film features the family pet, Monchi, dealing with a candy cane crook (appropriate for the season) and love at the same time. It’s animated with sock puppets and a canine stuffed doll with the arms of some actress playing Katie helping animate this beloved pug. To create this work in an opposite style in contrast to the film works for the sake of pretend realism.

James Bond’s Legacy Has No Time to Die

With the home video release, the tribute to Daniel Craig is a very worthwhile watch. I jumped to watching this full-length documentary rather than to see No Time to Die again.

Everybody has their preferred actor for James Bond. When he has No Time to Die, just who can play him next depends. There’s no formal announcement yet, but the producers promises there’ll be more in the coming years. I firmly believe just why he’s so long lived is because he’s not just one person. The sixty year franchise isn’t a proper passage of time. When one mission puts a version into retirement in the span of a handful of adventures–Never Say Never Again included–another takes his place.

Yes, James Bond is code name, much like 007, rather than the identity of a specific person.

Donnie Yen is Raging Fire

The difference between the cop-type characters Donnie Yen has played over the years lays with how gentle he is or just how much Raging Fire he has. This film made a proper debut in the summer of 2021 and it didn’t take long for it to make it over to North America. The home video release has a bonus which looks at the making of this exciting film!

Although we’re getting a direct to home video release, I’d go see this film on the big screen. Before the pandemic, the last film I saw of Yen’s was Enter the Fat Dragon, and it was worth every effort to visit the only cinema (in Vancouver) that screened it. This film takes advantage of that big screen presentation in the climax when we see him deal with his protege Ngo (Nicholas Tse), who turned bad, in true Batman-like fashion. Can he brutally hurt his nemesis or let him live to face justice?

Not to be confused with the Warhammer 40k weapon of different renown, The Emperor’s Sword (乱世之定秦剑) is a quasi-historical film which went from one streaming service in China to Hi-Yah! Network to home video release. There’s no bonus material to explain the finer details to which the tale comes from, and as for how much of what’s presented is real depends on how well one knows their Chinese history.

This tale takes place during the Qin Dynasty where “The Seven Gentlemen” (The Virtuous, The Wisdom, The Polite, The Valor, The Brave, The Vigor, and The Wise) are brought together to guard a sword that’s fabled to bring peace to the land. But to prevent the wrong people from taking absolute rule, this blade was split into two. If the parts ever reunite, problems are going to rise. Meng Tian (a real general) will have to deal with the mess. He protects one half of this blade. Elsewhere, Zhao Gao (also real) makes a grasp for power. He kills the current emperor (fictionalized) and his son, and with no surprise, the only survivor, Xue escapes with the sword. She barely survives and what we get is a merry chase through parts of China.

What’s new in Inglourious Basterds 4K release?

Inglourious Basterds (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray)Just when Universal Pictures thought they couldn’t top their Special Blu-ray edition of Tarantinos’ Inglourious Basterds, they are tweaking their 4K release. Between this and an exclusive to HMV (UK), there’s also a Cine edition.

This region specific release includes:

  • 4 x Art Cards
  • 8 x Character Cards

It’s been twelve years since the release of the special edition, and this film is worth revisiting since it helped make Christoph Waltz the star. He plays Nazi Colonel Hans Landa, a ruthless interrogator whom Lieutenant Aldo “The Apache” Raine (Brad Pitt) and his team are after. Well, sort of. There’s actually two plots by different organizations trying to do away with the leadership as the war continues on. It’s tough to decide who is worse, and that’s part of the joy of why this film is considered quintessential Tarantino.

F9’s Home Video is “All In” the Retrospective

The wait is certainly worthwhile for the featurettes offered in the home video release than seeing the film.

The extra six minutes of footage added to the recent Fast & Furious 9 Blu-ray release doesn’t amount to too much for those curious. Aside from Dom (Vin Diesel) and Jakob (John Cena) Toretto’s drag race, and some romantic interest with the younger kid and Letty, the rest felt more like short extensions to a few scenesss. But for those who missed seeing this movie on the big screen because of a certain global pandemic, the wait is certainly worthwhile for the featurettes offered than seeing the film. Those with an ATMOS home sound system will enjoy the audio workout this movie delivers.

“F9: All In” details the family as they were introduced in the past films, the people who wanted to get into this world and then some! It’s 46minutes long! The added pieces, “Practically Fast” and “Shifting Priorities” add to the documentary and it delves into the 20 years of the franchise as fans wait for the finale to this franchise.
