Transformers. When The Rise of the Beasts Must Help and More Than Meets the Unicron!

Just how much of a threat are The Rise of the Beasts, or should that be Maximals vs Unicron? #transformers #moviereview #hasbro

Transformers Rise of the Beasts Movie PosterParamount Pictures

Ever since I saw Transformers The Movie back in 1986, my love for Unicron only grew! To learn that he’s the big threat in Rise of the Beasts only got me excited, and since I knew this ancient threat is tough to take down, some new warriors must be borne!

In the original, various Cybertronian factions worked together to sever this giant’s link to his robotic self. As a result, his spirit would always linger. His head looms over Cybertron as a reminder of how he simply lays sleeping. To bring some of that omnipresence in Rise of the Beasts is a highlight and Steven Caple Jr. certainly delivers what we both adored from the animated film!

However, to show just how nasty this intergalactic level threat truly is can be tough. Short of using artificial intelligence to bring Orson Welles’ voice back, Colman Domingo has big shoes to fill! What’s presented is very satisfactory. But to show why he matters to the Maximals, the new robot guardians of the peace, is part-way explained, even though it breaks the original canon.

Cutting into Why Spirit Halloween The Movie Was Made

Spirit Halloween The Movie ranks right up there with Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, but minus the music.

Available on Google Play and Amazon Prime.

Anyone who bought a costume or decoration from the Spirit Halloween store will get a chuckle out of the fact this company wanted to produce one big commercial. It’s appropriately titled, Spirit Halloween The Movie. If that idea isn’t scary enough to convince people to shop at their stores, then I don’t know what will.

This work may get viewers wanting to look for those costumes and items seen in the motion picture to wear or place in their front yard. As much as I love the season and looking at what others can set up, there’s a difference between comic versus supernatural frights; the only way to understand this film is to accept that they’re venturing into one of those carnival style haunted houses often set up for this season, and it has every trick in the book to disorient you.

Snake-Eyes G.I. Joe: Origins From the Perspective of a Long Time Fan

At some point of this ronin’s journey, this warrior will become a mute and/or disfigured to make him decide to keep his signature armour on for the most part, and that’s when G.I. Joe will recruit him.

Snake-Eyes G.I. Joe Origins Movie Poster.jpgSpoiler Alert

Trying to rejuvenate interest in a more than a half century old toy line can be tough. Not even Snake-Eyes–the most popular character–can save the franchise. He’s not even a G.I. Joe in the self-titled Origins film. It may be the first in a series which redefines key characters, and giving them a history to make them edgier than the typical cartoon portrayal.

Just where Snake-Eyes (Henry Golding) learned martial arts is still a mystery. This  movie shows him as a diamond in the rough and this actor certainly knows how to play that up. There’s a lot of emotional baggage he has to shed before he can be that Ultimate Ninja. He first has to learn the way of bushido, and perhaps his heritage too. The latter is quickly revealed, but I hoped for more. I find the story really odd since it barely scratches the surface in what this individual knows as honour.

If this teaser cover by Mike Mignola doesn’t get fans attention, then I’m not sure which other artist can in Mattel, Inc. and Dark Horse Comics upcoming release of the Masters of the Universe: Revelation.

This four-issue mini-series is very likely to be the set-up for even more story-arcs to come–depending on how sales go–and the first issue is set to release July 2021.

When looking at this company’s latest franchised opportunities that are headed to comic stores soon, namely Cyberpunk 2021 You Have My Word to arrive in stores April 28th, it’s nice to see this publisher branch out to new licenses. While I’m still crying for the loss of Star Wars, I’m glad these releases are filling in a void.

From the Press Release:

The series will serve as a prequel to the upcoming “Masters of the Universe: Revelation” series from Netflix and Mattel Television premiering this year.

The story arc for the new comics was conceived by the show’s executive producers Kevin Smith (“Clerks,” “Dogma) and Rob David (“He-Man and the Masters of the Universe”),who also served as the creative director and a writer of DC Comics’ Masters of the Universe releases from 2012 – 2020, as well as show writer Tim Sheridan (“Reign of the Supermen,” “Superman: Man of Tomorrow). Mindy Lee (“Crimson Lotus,” “Bounty) provided art and color while, Stjepan Sejic (“He-Man: The Eternity War”) provided cover art for issue #1 with Dave Wilkins providing cover art for issues #2-#4. Mattel and Dark Horse will also release an issue #1 variant by Mike Mignola and Dave Stewart. Additional variant artists for subsequent issues include Bill Sienkiewicz, Walt Simonson with Laura Martin, and more.

“When the Masters of the Universe franchise first launched nearly 40 years ago, each action figure came with a comic book to enable children to further explore the world of Eternia,” said David. “Now, in partnership with Dark Horse, we will go back to our roots to set-up the upcoming “Masters of the Universe: Revelation,” television series with a world-shattering comic book tale.”

In the comic book, following a vicious Orlax attack on his father King Randor, He-Man learns the creature is linked to the origin of the sword of power. To save Randor and put an end to the chaos, He-Man embarks on an epic journey that pits him against his longtime foes Skeletor and Evil-Lyn, and sees Teela take the reins of a powerful legacy.
