10 Top Picks On What Exciting Films To See At Annecy 2025

Although Annecy is not screening Coyote vs. Acme after news this movie has been saved from being shelved, there’s plenty of other works to look forward to, and I got my top picks!

Runs from June 8th to 14th

When the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is the destination to see what’s coming in this genre, I’m always excited to look at what this event will screen. Not only will some mainstream works get their premiere but also it’s the place to showcase truly art house works! Although I can’t afford to travel there, I can always look from afar!

Also, The National Film Board of Canada often has a work or two to showcase. What I offer are my top picks in what to see for those able to attend. Some films have been entered official competition and others will make their debuts. The quotes are from Annecy’s webpage and I’ve included some commentary on other works I have knowledge on.

There’s a few that even have a date for regular release, and I can’t wait! The movies with known dates will have this entry.

The Flying Sailor Makes It’s Explosive Debut with The NFB at Annecy 2022

From TheNFB, The Flying Sailor by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby; Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethics by Terril Calder and Magical Caresses: Sweet Jesus by Lori Malépart-Traversy are playing in competition at Annecy 2022

The NFB at Annecy 2022 The National Film Board of Canada has three short films at this year’s Annecy Film Festival (June 13th to 18th) )competition. They are The Flying Sailor by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby; Meneath: The Hidden Island of Ethics by Terril Calder and Magical Caresses: Sweet Jesus by Lori Malépart-Traversy. The first of the three is making its world premiere and the other two have been available for at least a year. In what’s offered is a highlight reel of what women producers/content creators can express concerning reflections on existence, identity and sexuality.

Four works and co-productions from the National Film Board of Canada (TheNFB) are set to play at Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2021! This event in France takes place June 14 to 19, and as for how much of it will be available world-wide still needs to be announced. The pandemic is considered on-going and travel restrictions aren’t likely to lighten up until the end of the year.

Half the works entered into the Short Film competition are available online, and the rest are offered after the event to show what these creators have been up to while stuck at home. These talents have been productive amid the current global health situation, and we have the spotlight on:

To Sleep, Perchance to Dream–perhaps that’s what creators from Clyde Henry Productions (Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, directors of Madame Tutli-Putli) were thinking of in Gymnasia–a virtual reality experience premiering May 28 at Montreal’s Phi Centre as part of the >HUM(AI)N exhibition, which runs through September 15. For Canadian users who like to experience this on Oculus devices, including the recently released Quest, it’s now available free of charge in the Oculus store.
