From Shout Studios’ A Place Further Than The Universe Prepares to Delight in this Special Home Video Release

The charming slice-of-life anime will have a new place in shelves as A Place Further Than The Universe Collector’s Edition arrives in select North American e-commerce stores from Anime Limited, distributed by Shout! Studios. From the renowned anime studio Madhouse (Perfect Blue, Death Note, Hunter x Hunter), the feel-good series delights viewers as the spirit of youth is captured in beautiful animation, lovable characters and an incredible adventure.

This movie follows the journey of four girls in their travels to Antarctica and is directed by Atsuko Ishizuka (Goodbye, Don Glees!, No Game No Life), with script and series composition by Jukki Hanada (Steins;Gate, Love Live! Superstar!!). The lauded original anime drama won the hearts of coming-of-age enthusiasts, as well as the 2019 Anime Trending award for Anime of the Year.

Transformers Earthspark, A Brand New Era and Next Season News

Anyone enjoying Transformers Earthspark will be glad to hear more episodes are being made, and in the meantime, we offer a full series review now that the entire series is available on home video.

Spoiler Alert

Transformers Earthspark is like Rescue Bots at times, because of how everyone treats each other like a tight family. Just when I thought the home release might offer material to explain the similarity, this bare-bones release doesn’t delve into the development. I’m curious about why Quintus Prime finds it vital to seed other planets with Emberstone. This artifact can create new life, and while this Primus allowed this planet to run its natural course, why would this artfact remain? Since it was placed on a pedestal, there’s a lingering question of who worshipped it?

Maybe one day, I can meet the creators and ask about this new direction for the franchise. Aside from seeing Nicole Dubuc‘s name–who has helped produce the series for a long time–the others involved in the development are not as familiar. As long as she’s leading the charge, I’m okay with this update.

NSYNC with the Details Regarding the Trolls Band Together Sing-Along Edition

What watching Trolls Band Together again in home video will let viewers know just what fences have been mended between brothers who haven’t been back to the studio in ages.

Everything you want to learn about Justin Timberlake‘s executive producer role in Trolls Band Together but were afraid to ask is well addressed here. I’m quite enjoying the home video release of this work a lot more than what was experienced at the theatre. It’s mostly because I wanted to know more about how the NSYNC reunion came about. I’m sure it wasn’t as easy as a phone call when considering what happened that resulted in them disbanding, sort of reuniting, and et cetera.

What I’ve learned from viewing “Hi, Hi, Hi” and “Together Again” is that Timberlake isn’t the only one who wants to keep this franchise alive. Producer Gina Shay must have geeked out when he pitched the idea of doing a reunion. To see the behind the scenes recordings with them talking about how to develop their characters and also composing a new song must’ve been a dream come true for her.

The Top Three Animated Films Playing During Chinese New Year, and White Snake Rebirth for this Summer!

What fans of Donghua animation can expect for this year are a bunch of great animated films, but our interest is with White Snake 3 than the others being offered.

White Snake Rebirth Teaser Poster Whether Light Chaser Animation Studios intentionally did not want to debut White Snake Rebirth during Chinese New Year or needed no more time, the good news is that it’s expected to be released Summer 2024! Not everyone will be aware of this film, and this release isn’t being all that well advertised right now.

That’s because not every city got to screen this studio’s last work, Chang’an: A Journey of Thirty Thousand Miles, to reveal this fact. This film had a very limited theatrical run, what’s presented is very much a blink, and you’ll miss it moment. Those people fortunate to see this movie will have seen the teaser. Even afterwards, there isn’t much talk about it on the forums and few animation news websites that I track.

For now, the films that are seeing love in China’s box office includes Boonie Bears: Time Twist, Ba Jie (a film I hope will get some America-side attention due to its theme of how to enter Buddhist heaven), and Huang Pi: God of Wealth Cat. The latter sounds interesting since it concerns a cat who gives out money! As for which new movie is making waves, Variety announced news that Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to distribute the sports live action comedy Yolo for international release.

TheNFB and Janet Perlman’s The Girl with the Red Beret is Slice of Life at its Best

When The Girl with the Red Beret takes a ride on the Montreal metro, it becomes the unlikely venue for a strange and wonderful musical journey.

The Girl with the Red Beret Poster Out of all the animated works The National Film Board of Canada has produced over the years, The Girl with the Red Beret (La fille au béret rouge) ups the ante on what “slice of life” means. Here, what gets presented is about an experience and how one little girl sees a an entire world can unfold in Montreal as she rides the Metro.

It’s possible to experience a lot when riding public transit. And what’s presented is not just about whom she encounters, but also in how time marches on. There’s no big story here. Although I was paying attention to the pickpocket’s attempt to steal from this young lady, that narrative disappears midway. Afterwards, another plot popped in and I had to ask why attempt to transport a large couch on this ride? I’m sure others have tried in real life, and failed.

What Does A Robot Dreams of is not Necessarily Life, Love and Happiness

Yoda would certainly mince the words around after watching this surreal look at the relationships of animal-kind and machine in Robot Dreams.

In Robot Dreams, a dog’s best friend is not a man. Instead, it’s in what can be made out of mechanical parts and the hope that parting is not sweet sorrow. In this anthropomorphic world, this canine (simply known as Dog) has no friends. I had questions regarding why this is so. There’s no backstory. My guess is that this mutt is a loner.

And after building Robot, life doesn’t seem as bleak. They hold hands and do things people dating would do, like go dancing in the park. There are even some questionable occasions which made me think he ordered a mail-order bride. It may be answered in the graphic novel this film is based on, but as I haven’t read it, I’ll have to find out!

From a technical perspective, this animation is really well done and as for what the artists had in mind for some sequences, I assume dog has fetishes that’s thankfully been edited out.
