Finding a Place to Belong at Monsters University

As a prequel, this film makes for the perfect lead-in to Monsters Inc., but as a standalone product, there’s not much to this film that simply explains how one big eye surrounded by a mound of green flesh and a fluffy blue bear has become bosom buddies.

Monsters_University_poster_3Expectations were low for some long-time PIXAR fans going in to see Monsters University. In fact, they were smaller than the green imp, Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal). He has these grand ambitions to be a Scare-a-lot even though he is better suited to be Care Bears material. The joke is on him when he finally arrives at the prestigious Monsters University. He is there to learn how to be scary and that is one tall order for the most tamest beast to grace this monster-verse.

Even James Sullivan (John Goodman) is more about fluff than flights of fancy as he tries to buffoon his way through college life.

Transformers Prime Movie Confirmed!

Good news for fans of Transformers: Prime! It’s concluding with a movie.

Transformers Prime Logo

The Hub network has confirmed a few days ago that Transformers: Prime will conclude with a 90-min movie. Very little detail was given in the press release, other than saying this production will serve as an “epilogue.” The war may not necessarily end, but apparently the fate of Cybertron will be revealed.

No date was announced, but presumably this film will air in the Fall of 2013.

Excerpt:
The eagerly anticipated conclusion of the CG animated Daytime Emmy® Award winning series will make its network television premiere as a Hub Original Family Movie. A 90-minute epilogue to the final season wraps up the series that chronicles the epic battle between the Decepticons and the Autobots in their mission to defend Earth and one day restore their home planet of Cybertron. The Hub Original Family Movie is produced by Hasbro Studios.

Smurfs 2 Theatrical Trailer #2

The Smurfs 2 - WikipediaFor those of you who had a smurfin’ good time at the last Smurfs feature (I know I laughed out loud at Hank Azaria’s performance) than Smurfs 2 may be just for you.

The Smurfs with the aid of their human friends mount a rescue after Smurfette (Katy Perry) is captured by Gargamel (Hank Azaria). It is she who Gargamel believes contains the knowledge of a formula to turn the evil sorcerer’s newest creations – creatures called the Naughties – into true blue Smurfs.

Neil Patrick Harris makes his return as Patrick Winslow and is joined by Harry Potter’s Alastor ‘Mad-Eye’ Moody, Brendan Gleeson. Fans of Jonathan Winters will flock to the theatres to see his final role as the voice of Papa Smurf.

Smurfs 2 premieres July 31st.

The Lego Movie Trailer!

In the film an ordinary Lego minifigure mistaken for a MasterBuilder is recruited to help stop an evil Lego tyrant from gluing the universe together.

The newest Lego Movie trailer is here from Warner Brothers and if one may say it’s looking good for 2014. One doesn’t have to be a builder of Lego to appreciate a good stop motion animated movie or a collector of it’s blocks and special sets.

From the trailer it appears many characters from the Lego universe will be in the film in either supporting roles or cameos.

The Lego Movie not only has a great cast in such names as Chris Pratt, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks and Liam Neeson but they have experienced directors at the helm. Attached to the Lego Movie are the team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs) with Chris McKay (TVs Robot Chicken and Moral Orel) co-directing.

The Croods Go Crazy!

The Croods is more than a Flintstone Family conundrum, and it explores the problems siblings face with their parents.

The CroodsWriter/Creator Chris Sanders shows that he rarely strays far from what he knows is a good tale. In what he crafted for The Croods is more than a Flintstone Family conundrum, and it explores the problems siblings face with their parents.

But this movie is one tough rock to crack. It doesn’t have the same appeal as Sander’s breakout directorial hit, Lilo & Stitch, or his phenomenal adaptation of Cassandra Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon. When the story has to deal with five characters attempting to share equal screen time, the problems of managing a cohesive family drama versus sit-com ala The Munsters is evident.
