How to get a Sneak Peak of Guardians of the Galaxy on July 7th!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

In a brilliant stroke of marketing, fans of Marvel Entertainment’s films can get a sneak peek of Guardians of the Galaxy on July 7th, 2014 along with 17mins of exclusive footage in select IMAX theatres for free.

Hopefully what is presented will be enough to salivate the most hungry fans interested in this next part of this Phase 2 saga leading up to Avengers 2: Age of Ultron.

When a crazy Star Lord (Peter Quuill) steals an orb from a vault, all he ends up doing is perhaps getting into a ride of the century. He has to ally himself with “branded” criminals to become the Guardians of the Galaxy.

As a token of thanks to those hard-core fans and Marvelites, a special poster (depicted left) will be offered to show attendees. They can see if a local theatre is listed and register here for a pass. ID is required at time of redemption.

Rating the X-Men Films from Best to Worst

The quantitative number seven is enough to allow me to start ranking which cinematic X-men universe movies are superior, and this list goes from best to worst.

The quantitative number seven is enough to allow me to start ranking which cinematic X-men universe movies are the best. Not every movie makes the grade in terms of its storytelling value or replay potential. Sometimes, what makes the film is in how it fits in with the comic book canon even though the cinematic world beats to its own drum. Presented here is a list from best to worst.

There’s a Cold War Brewing in Captain America Winter Soldier!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

The good thing about the three Captain America movies, Winter Soldier included, is that writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have a set theme in mind: stand up for liberty and freedom no matter what. Abe Lincoln said it best to Henry Pierce, “Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, can not long retain it.”

In this case, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has to learn just how that rhetoric has changed throughout time. He has to question who has the final authority in a mission or in whose agenda he has to serve. As the plot develops in this movie, he finds that he has to stand up to scrutiny amongst his peers. As to why Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) went to visit him in his apartment to hand off an important key — a hardware device — that can undermine everything that S.H.I.E.L.D. has built itself up for.

Final Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Unveiled and Thoughts

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Spider-Man 2 Poster

Sorry Electro and Goblin, but the villain I want to see is the Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The film re-imagines the suit of armor that will define this behemoth and it looks awesome. And this latest trailer — hopefully it is definitely the last one — leading up to the movie it sets up the ultimate tease where Spidey looks like he will get stomped.

If Stan Lee was to describe this film: it’s going to be astounding, unapologetic and apocryphal.  It may even lead in to a Spider-Man and Iron Man tie in if the studios are willing, especially when viewers are noting just how the Rhino suit is designed.

But this trailer also sets up who is Spider-Man; well, that’s Peter Parker of course! When Parker spouts off, “I am Spider-Man,” with a passionate conviction, was that really needed? Visions of Tim Burton’s Batman comes to mind. This setup shows that there is a lot going on in Parker’s life. He is trying to figure out what happened to his parents. Instead of being traitors or spies, his father, Richard, is definitely a research geneticist.

Impressions from the Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

Guardians of the Galaxy

The Guardians of the Galaxy have been unleashed and while everyone on Earth who is not a comic book reader is asking, “who?” the film will no doubt answer that in no short order. Or should that be one long? With Rocket Raccoon presenting that one end of the spectrum and Groot, the tree-like humanoid (not an Ent), for the other, the focus will no doubt be with Peter Jason Quill (Chris Pratt), the Star Lord who is jonesing for trouble after attempting to steal an orb.

This full length trailer is setting up this movie to be a science fiction action adventure comedy. It will no doubt be a tale to show the origin of the group, but as the trailer ends, they have become a group already. Hints of each of them being rogue will set up some interesting dysfunctional family type moments, and that can be humourous to see.

But as for whether not that this type of story direction is going to be right, that will be up to audiences to decide when this movie releases August 1, 2014.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Superbowl Trailers and Analysis!

By Ed Sum (The Vintage Tempest)

The_Amazing_Spiderman_2_poster

Is there going to be a eugenics war in Amazing Spider-Man 2? If this latest trailer is any indication, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) is learning that Oscorp Industries has followed him for some time now. They are interested in cross-breeding experiments. Through bio-morphism and the study of regeneration, Dr. Curt Connors became the Lizard and thinks the world can be a better place if everyone in New York City is changed. Peter had to deal with that threat in the first movie and save the day.

With hype for the second movie now in full swing, this sequel will show what the power of substance abuse can do to other people. Apparently the serum that Connors “perfected” is still being studied. With him gone, what’s hidden and contained remains a secret to everyone but Norman Osborne. His son, Harry (Dane DeHaan) seems to be privy to some information, but as for how much he knows, viewers will have to see Amazing Spider-Man 2 (due to be released in theatres May 2) to find out.
