All The Deets on All The Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror Volume Two

Due to the huge amount of information presented, this breakdown on what will be offered in All The Haunts Be Ours Volume Two will be split into three articles.

All The Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium Of Folk Horror Vol. 2
Available to pre-order on Amazon USA

Release Date: Nov 12, 2024

Everything fans of folk horror want to know but were afraid to ask is continuing to be explored in an all new continuation, simply titled All The Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium of Folk Horror Volume Two. And when I own a copy of the first set, there’s no turning back! Not only am I a rabid completist but also this new collection offers recent movies that define what this genre is all about.

As for older works that can’t be easily found online or not available, half the list includes films making their debut on the optical medium. The care and attention put into these collections says it all. I’m particularly glad there’s a lot more to explore. What’s offered is an extension of the documentary that started it all, Woodlands Dark and Days Bewitched Documentary (review link)

Light Chaser Animation Studio’s Next Film is Strange Tales From A Chinese Studio! Teaser Trailer

For those unfamiliar with thie collection of spooky stories from China, Strange Tales from A Chinese Studio shows that ghosts are just as prominent in local folklore!

Strange Tales from a Chinese StudioLight Chaser Animation released a teaser to their next project over the weekend, and for fans of the book, Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio (Amazon link), this news is very exciting! One of the most famous stories includes a short to which Tsui Hark’s 1987 A Chinese Ghost Story is based on. And as for what I assume to be an anthology series, just what other spooky tales can be offered can range from spectres just wanting a second chance at life to that of spirits taking vengeance! The date for this release is the summer of 2025!

With over 500 tales to choose from in the 12 volumes published, I can’t venture to guess just how many segments will be offered. If I was producing, I’d opt to select one story per book, and instead of making one movie, at least make it a trilogy. In the West, the only compilation I’m acutely aware of is The A, B, C’s of Death where 26 shorts are offered in just one work!

Who Needs Deadites When “Beezel” is the New Nightmare?

Whether Beezel is the nickname for another often used in horror cinema isn’t in question here. Just whether they’re related might be in this fondly nightmarish New England town anthology!

Beezel Movie PosterSocial House Films

For over sixty years, one home’s evil past continues to be fed. The terror in Beezel suggests this spirit will always linger, and I believe this demon is worse than the demon who haunts the cellar from Evil Dead! When the title of the movie is about her ability to dominate the living, I’m afraid! The reason is because she enjoys feasting upon the fears from the hosts and victims sacrificed to her.

It seems Halloween has arrived earlier than expected as usually the best works are saved for last. Instead, I doubt any new movie can top what Beezel offers: ghoulish torture experiments, possession, and a lot more! As for how many stories exist, I counted three. But without title cards to distinguish between the tales, that’s the only confusion I had.

After this filmmaker won an Oscar with the short of the same name, he said in an official press release, “If I could have been there, I (along with Steven Rales) would have said “Thank you” to: the family of Roald Dahl; the team at Netflix; our cast and crew; and also: if i had not met Owen Wilson in a corridor at the University of Texas between classes when I was 18 years old, I would certainly not be receiving this award tonight–but unfortunately Steven and I are in Germany and we start shooting our new movie early tomorrow morning, so I did not actually receive the award or get a chance to say any of that.”

Sometimes Being a “Dark Asset” is Problematical When Wanting Freedom from What Once Was

The main story about who can gain their freedom in Dark Asset is easy to figure out because of all the flashbacks being revealed.

Dark Asset Movie PosterSaban Films
Playing at Select theatres and on VOD

I can recognise shades of the cult movie Universal Soldier in Michael Winnick‘s Dark Asset, a science fiction cum conspiracy film about an ordinary soldier who gives up his life in order to be turned into a programmed killing machine. It’s almost like Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. But instead of making humanoid clones with biochip implants where when a coded signal activates them to fulfil General Order 66, here, the idea is more about augmentation and brainwashing.

When the story reveals Dr. Cain (Robert Patrick) is key to making these super soldiers–normal guys and girls who will activate to fulfil a mission after a signal is sent, I was curious. He plays very questionable characters extremely well. I loved him in The X-Files, and that was this film’s best selling point for me.
