So Which Popular Artist/Illustrator, Do You Want “Story & Pictures By” Under the X-Mas Tree?

To fill in the blank in the documentary, Story & Pictures By, can be tough. That’s because to finish that phrase on who is best at crafting the perfect children’s picture book is difficult to answer.

Some folks might say the market for children’s picture books is dying, and I have to say no. What Story & Pictures By reveals is this type of publication continues to be popular and when educational content is attached, much more so! And unlike those works that I read growing up (Curious George), what’s different now is a better representation from a group of authors who say it’s better than ever! Christian Robinson, Yuyi Morales, and Mac Barnett are the focus on Joanna Rudnick‘s excellent documentary.

Also, balancing well-known past illustrators with current leading artists must have been a hard task for the filmmakers. The talents who stand out are those who illustrate their own work and will talk about what helped define them.

Who Needs John McClane when Kevin Hart Proves He Can Die Hart 3 Times Over?

There’s no need to watch Die Hard this Christmas. Instead, let’s enjoy Die Hart 3: Hart to Kill as a replacement for an all out action-adventure-comedy that’s sure to thrill. When J.K. Simmons is involved, there’s plenty to ho-ho-ho about!

Die Hart 3 Hart to Kill Promotional PosterKevin Hart has been through a lot since season one of his fictionalised life, and when this series is up to Die Hart 3, I’ll gladly tune in to watch what this actor is up to next!

To recap what happened before, this comedian wants a change of career, and wants to switch from being a comedian to that of an action-star. In season one, he learns the ropes, and the training he underwent was tough (review link)! Season Two shows him elevating that training so that he can be like Jackie Chan  (review link), and the stakes are a lot higher. Not only does he want to produce that movie but also, he wants top billing.

In this latest instalment, he’s now wanting to star in a serious drama. After getting laughed off stage with his work as a narrator for what looks like a nature documentary. And in order to do that, he’ll have to convince the renowned director, Jackson Pepper (J. K. Simmons), to give him the chance. However, this producer doesn’t think this actor has what it takes. Until he graduates from the Pepper School of Hard Knocks, nobody in Hollywood will take him seriously.

Guerrilla UFOlogists Better Look Out! In The Next Aliens Uncovered Exists The Land of Legends….

If you have seen none of Clive Christopher’s other Aliens Uncovered documentaries, then there’s really no order in what to watch first. He’ll continue to look at cases not usually explored on Discovery/Travel Channel.

Spoiler Alert

Clive Christopher is a Guerrilla style filmmaker looking for a connection between what the indigenous people of Arizona are saying about visitors from the skies, and the information presented in Aliens Uncovered: The Land of Legends is rather fascinating. It is about time we get a look at this world, and I suspect watching this together with UFOs over Arizona and Buried Cities & Lost Tribes paints a bigger picture than this latest alone.

While this work mentions this tribal connection in the first segment, that’s as far as this documentary will go. Apparently, one of the earliest first contacts occurred at Camp Navajo and it doesn’t concern ancient aliens! Although much of what happened remains top secret, enough whistleblowers provided information to create this latest entry to the series. Artificial intelligence video rendered much of this segment, and though the animation style has an alien feel because I feel the technology for realism isn’t there, I suspect Christopher intentionally wanted to give this segment that otherworldly feel.

Wilfred Buck is Touring Canada on Crave!

Wilfred Buck is more than “a beloved spiritual guide and effervescent Elder from the Cree nation.” His goal is to show to the world that Indigenous astronomy is just as relevant too. It’s not all Greco-Roman.

Wilfred Buck has found a home, and his story can be seen on Crave. As for when this documentary will hit HBO because this Canadian streaming service also includes their content, I assume it will be broadcast on other networks too. That may start next year. That way, fellow stargazers can look at why his passion for exploring what twinkles on the night sky can be passed on to another generation.

And where he goes are towns and campuses singing a special tune. While I like to call him a fellow Traveling Wilbury, he’s more of a scholar than musician. What he offers are stories about the constellations according to his native indian beliefs.

When Ghosts of Red Ridge Love to Linger ‘Round, There’s No Gold To Find In Them Thar Hills

The Ghosts of Red Ridge may not be all that frightful, and just what’s delightful for this holiday release is that it leans on all the motifs that define a Western more than the other.

Being a Sheriff isn’t easy. And when the Ghosts of Red Ridge visit Dunlap (Owen Williams) every night, the big question he has is who are they, what do they want, and why him? This gentle supernatural thriller takes place in the Old West, and although it moves slowly at first, I’m enjoying the character interactions. There’s something wild and woolly which makes this film by Stefan Colson (director) and Brandon Cahela (writer) feel like a spaghetti western.

A few conventions exist, like the stock music and familiarly garbed good guy and bad guy. The only difference here is that ghosts are involved and are tinged in blueish grey. Also, they look like they were from The Ring! In this movie, they behave differently, and are mostly appearing to one individual. Since day one, he’s questioning his sanity since he doesn’t understand what they want, and why him? I couldn’t help but be reminded of Ghost Wars because both towns look like they are trapped in Limbo.

From Night of the Blood Beast, just what will Attack of the Giant Leeches Feast on? And a Future connection…

Could there be a connection with the types of scares made with Creepy Bits and Corman? Probably not with Night of the Blood Beast, but for the second film, read on to find out!

Night of the Blood Beast Blu-ray Release
Available to purchase on Amazon USA

The Film Masters latest double-feature is showing what producer Roger Corman loves about horrors from space and undersea. In Night of the Blood Beast (1958), humanity has to face off against some alien parasite that’s reanimated a dead astronaut. This pilot was aware something hit his craft, but when he aborted the flight, little did he know he had a rider back to earth!

I like to think of this film as a precursor to the way the 94 Spider-Man animated series introduced Venom. The tales are wildly different, but I couldn’t get that image off my mind! As for what’s special about this release is that it’s the most ‘complete’ of the releases. This includes the Mystery Science Theatre 3K episode where this film gets riffed upon. It’s a nice add-on for fans of this series.
