Now Available on Steam and Nintendo Switch
Nyaaaanvy is a rather fun physics-based 3D fighting game which features sausage-like kitties attacking each other with their butts! It’s less about claiming an alpha status on every rooftop (or other oddly shaped arenas with moving parts) where they nest. Like real life cats, they have their places where they prefer to hang out, and here, it’s all about who has the power.
The people from Team DigitalMind must’ve been taking something crazy to come up with this idea, or they saw some felines fighting it out on a rooftop and said, “Hey, let’s make a party game out of it! But what we must consider is the physics regarding how they fall.” When considering I’m the type who will cat videos where one is stalking another, just to pounce upon, I’ll get a chuckle or two. The guffaws happen when the victim does something ludicrous in response, and sometimes falls. Thankfully, no kitties were harmed and as we all know, cats often land on their feet–no harm is done.
To find like-minded friends willing to play this game has been tough and thankfully, the online option allows for a randomised play. There are one-on-one matches, four player local and online matches up a leaderboard (up to six players can play).
Although I’ve been testing the Steam version out with the keyboard, switching over to a controller is highly recommended! I found it easier to launch combos.
There are a few subgames that thankfully give players some variety on the concept. There’s an arcade, survival, and even a sumo styled mode. The Japanese influence is very notable, and without it, I doubt I’d really want to touch this game.
Also, depending on the scenario, there are also power-ups and health boosts. Much like many other street fighter type games, there are combos. It took a while for me to discover what they are, but once I got used to being able to launch them in time, all I can say is oh myyy.
Also, gamers can collect coins so they can be spent to customise your kitty. It’s possible to dress them up Sanrio-style, and as for mimicking other famous cats, it depends. The replay value is fairly good, but it all depends on the individual and if they love pets doing the weirdest things. If you’re the type of cat lover who takes pleasure in letting them fight it out and then simply walk away, then Nyaaaanvy is purr-fect!
