Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans Teaser Trailer & Thoughts

One expectation is certain: someone has to claim the sword Excalibur. None of the current heroes can pull it from the ground.

Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans will release July 21, 2021, and the three series which make up the Tales of Arcadia will truly come together. Princess Aja and Prince Krel Tarron barely had a presence in the third arc, Wizards. I hope they are more involved in the film. The teaser trailer which dropped this week suggests big things.

The title brings to mind the Greek giants of yore. Executive producer Guillmero del Toro loves playing with mythology, and we may see all twelve “titans” and the mother of them all–Gaea (Earth)–as this series antagonists. She represents more than just creation. Some see her moods shifting with the seasons, and I feel the life, death and rebirth cycle also factors in. One of the monsters they face looks like a giant-sized cross between a Heatran and Gigalith from Pokemon GO, and I doubt the combined team want to catch this mad beast.

More Than Just a Breakdown of Wizards: Tales of Arcadia

To see Tales of Arcadia come full circle is a nice touch. We get to the beginnings of the Trollhunter mythos and see history in the making in Wizards.

The third chapter to the Tales of Arcadia saga is finally here! Sadly, Wizards is the shortest of the three series. We see our heroes from Trollhunters return and shifts the focus to Douxie (voiced by Colin o’Donoghue). He has big shoes to fill as a wizard-in-training. Merlin is his teacher. The Arcane Order is the big bad in this world, and not everyone can deal with these elemental masters! But they are more than just that. They watched over magic since the stars were young, and one of the members said, “Since man destroyed their palace.”

The first episode functions more like a catch-up reel, following after the events of 3Below. The next episode reveals the Arthurian connection and establishes the true villains–Nari of the eternal forest, Skrael of the North Wind and Bellroc, Keeper of the Flame–serving a different purpose. They are guardians who (like in Avatar: Last Airbender) work together to keep a balance between the elements. Strangely missing is air. In this world’s case, they talk about the imbalance between the world of magic and the rise of mankind. The mortals of Earth are fearful of the supernatural and seek to suppress it.

Tales of Arcadia: 3Below Hits Hilarious New Highs

3Below bounces between your typical high school comedy (any will do) and Men in Black.

3Below PosterSpoiler Alert

The next book in the Tales of Arcadia is on Netflix and anyone interested in what’s after Trollhunters will find 3Below familiar enough. More slapstick is emphasized in this science fiction teen drama. One terrific detail to note is that this race is an energy-based lifeform, not biological. Imaginative fiction rarely considers other forms of sentient life to become the stars and with CGI, the sky is the limit!

In the solar system where Akaridion-5 lays, the united kingdoms led by Fialkov is getting overthrown. General Morando has simple goals, to rule by domination, and not everyone subscribes to his ideals. He rallied enough warriors to follow his cause, but before he can conquer new worlds, he has to ensure no signs of rebellion can take place by quashing all local resistance. Krel (Diego Luna) and Aja (Tatiana Maslany) are the successors to the throne. As Krel’s coronation is underway, the coup is at hand!
