Yerden Telemissov’s Stinker is Weird Yet Wonderful. And Why It Wins Big at Fantasia Film Festival!

Yerden Telemissov’s movie is no Stinker. Instead, it’s a charming tale concering, I won’t know.

Stinker Movie posterSpoiler Alert

Although the initial moments of the movie Stinker (originally titled Sasyq) introduce a vino, Sadyk Ospanovich (Dulyga Akmolda), absolutely hammered and laid out in a field, this setup is perfect. When he walks out onto the highway, the abrupt ending may well shock. That’s because of the fake credit sequence. But the story does not end there. Maybe what that’s supposed to mean is that he’s imagining the rest of the film. Until I get to interview writer and director Yerden Telemissov, I won’t know.

What follows is a quietly powerful story of loneliness and acceptance. In his small Kazakh village, Sadyk is a harmless drifter. After the death of his wife, he’s without purpose. He’s given up on life, and locals are used to his presence. But lateone night, everything changes. He witnesses a UFO making erratic moves and it soon crashes! Although the wreckage and mention of gets swept under the rug and nobody wants to talk, this individual finds meaning by taking care of the alien (Chingiz Kapin).

Their bond is rather unusual. Both yearning for a connection. I doubt this relationship is like the one in E.T. The Extraterrestrial. Instead, I see this presentation as a tale about bridging worlds together.

When Kung Fu Rookie is Kazakhstan’s Latest Export to the Cinematic Market….

Being A Kung Fu Rookie in Kazakhstan isn’t Hard. When Lawlessness is Everywhere, It’s More Dangerous!

Kung Fu Rookie Movie PosterComing to VOD and Digital
Release Date: March 14

Kung Fu Rookie (or Super Courier) embraces the old school Jackie Chan style of storytelling. When the protagonist is from humble roots, he’ll have to become a zero to hero somehow. This film, set in the present, depicts Timuchin’s (Timur Baktybayev, the director) rapid transformation from country bumpkin to city slicker. And in this tale, this character is even being compared to this famous martial artist actor. That’s because he has some impressive acrobatic skills!

And while these action sequences don’t quite match the intensity, I am thrilled to learn this movie is finally coming to streaming services. I’m enjoying this film because this Kazakhstan production gives curiosity seekers a look at this world. It’s no different from any other big city; gangs rule part of it. Timu wastes no time showing he’s ready to fight when thugs constantly bother him and his uncle! Instead of being a vigilante, he wants to become a law enforcement officer!

Xena: Warrior Princess may well have taken inspiration from a certain ancient Kazakhstan queen. After watching The Legend of Tomiris, the real-life figure (well played by Almira Tursyn) from Massagetae, I like to learn more! This region of Central Asia is largely unknown to most westerners. She’s inspired the Amazonians of lore, but I say she’s done more than simply unite the people of the Great Steppes. Her silent ferocity shows no fury like a woman scorned. In this film’s case, killing her husband and child led to a climactic battle against the invading Persians.
