Is It Too Late To “Howl” When The Invisible Alien Threat is Everywhere?

In Howl, Alisa Kwitney and Mauricet blend counterculture and aliens to create a melting pot of sublime terror for comic book fans to enjoy. To see how they don’t deal is part of the fun!

Ahoy Comics Howl #3 Comic Book CoverSpoiler Alert

Ahoy Comics has a unique tale that’s now in its third issue, and I will Howl should my expectation for the last two issues not get met. This alien invasion cum romantic comedy looks at a side of Americana where the events do not take place at a little shop of horrors. Instead, it’s some corner of Greenwich Village in New York. Unless the UFO was on silent running, I found it strange nobody on the streets noticed it spraying a fine red mist everywhere. The people introduced on the first page ignore it as if it were dust from a passing dirty truck.

Ziva is the main protagonist in this story by Alisa Kwitney. In issue #1, she’s with her friend, Frida, hurrying to get to school. Unbeknownst to them, they inhaled the micro-organisms instead of fanning it away. Even Stanley, Z’s boyfriend, caught this virus! By the next issue, he’s no longer the fun loving character she knows him as, and she even thinks he’s now cheating on her! The next issue really sets up the complications and as for what kind of education she’s getting, I figure she’s a nurse in training.

Just How Archaic Must Be With Melissa F. Olson’s Latest Comic Book Project?

Archaic #1 will be on sale in comic shops everywhere on December 4, 2024.

Archaic Comic Book CoverAhoy Comics isn’t getting Archaic with this self-titled release where it concerns a sentient island taking care of its own residents. When they were once revered in the legends and lore from worlds long gone, or perhaps even forgotten, I can’t wait for December 4, 2024 to arrive.

On paper, this idea sounds like what Fantasy Island wanted to become before it went off air. I never bothered with the remake because I adore Ricardo Montalban. seem to recall some elements where Rourke was like a guardian. He would help those who come to realise what they desire comes at a price. Not everyone survives to the end, but for those who do, they are a little bit wiser. What they learn caps off each episode, and I have to wonder if this series will do the same? When this tale concerns the ancient gods of yore from mythology, I’m game to find out!

From the Press Release:

This modern-day action-adventure follows the newest residents of a sentient island populated by the gods and monsters of dead civilizations: a harried single mom and her three kids. From writer Melissa F. Olson (Project: Cryptid, Dead Spots), artist Sally Cantirino (I Walk With Monsters), and colourist Gab Contreras (Witchblood), the fast-paced mystery explores what happens to legends once the world no longer has use for them. Archaic #1 will feature a main cover by Cantirino, as well as variant covers from Liana Kangas and Emma Vieceli, and land in stores on this Winter.

Black’s Myth Gets a Series Two and TP News

Black's Myth #1 - Comics by comiXologyAvailable to order on Amazon USA
Release Date: Februrary 15th

Ahead of the trade paperback release of the acclaimed Black Myth graphic novel by writer Eric Palicki (Atlantis Wasn’t Built For Tourists) and artist Wendell Cavalcanti (BlackAcre), Syracuse-based comic publisher Ahoy Comics has announced that the creative team, including star cover artist Liana Kangas (Trve Kvlt, Star Wars Adventures, She Said Destroy, BLACK AF: Devil’s Dye), will return for an all new series, to be released later this year.

The acclaimed, punk rock horror comic follows the adventures of werewolf PI Janie Jones “Strummer” Mercado and her charming djinn assistant Ben Si’lat as they solve crimes in the “supernatural underground” thriving in Los Angeles.

The collected trade paperback will feature an introduction by CHEW co-creator, writer John Layman. In this volume, when the case of a lifetime falls into Strummer’s lap, it’s up to her and her charming djinn assistant Ben Si’lat to figure out just how many silver bullets have been used. (And just where do silver bullets come from, anyway?)

Janie’s Got A Gun in Black’s Myth by Ahoy Comics!

This world isn’t any different from the classic World of Darkness scheme in the RPG world. In the first issue alone, I get the sense there’s also demons, vampires and other spooks hiding ’round the corner. We just may see them featured in upcoming issues.

Black's Myth #1Ahoy Comics
Now Available in Comic Stores
Spoiler Alert

Who needs an American Werewolf in London when there’s an Afro-American one in the mean streets of Los Angeles. Janie “Strummer” Jones is a P.I. on the hunt for the assassin out to kill her kind in the comic titled Black’s Myth. She took one for the team, and thankfully survived. However, she has yet to identify the killer. Ben Si’lat is her assistant and a djinn to boot! He can’t grant wishes, but can help her out in other ways that she can’t. She can only do so much when in lupine form to use her enhanced senses.

This noir-style horror comic book from writer Eric Palicki and artist Wendell Cavalcanti has a lot to like. Presenting this world in B&W gives this world character. Plus, the blood splatters look better when painted in plain ol’ black.

Ahoy Comics Shows Ash & Thorn vs Old Age

Ash and Thorn by Ahoy ComicsRelease Date:
July 8, 2020

Ahoy Comics

Two old ladies versus the apocalypse–what can go wrong? Very little if you’re like Lotte Thorn in the comic book, Ash and Thorn by Mariah McCourt. She’s crafted a unique type of master and apprentice narrative which sees this elderly warrior mage take on the undead! Her trainer is Lady Peruvia Ashlington-Voss. As the title suggests, these characters can be rather prickly.

The fact our heroine is recruited much later in life to deal with a supernatural threat says something. You’re never too old to save the world!
