When Will Part-Time Comix’ The Drumsticks of Doom, Volume 2 Come Out?

When heavy metal and the supernatural go hand to hand, Drumsticks of Doom has everything a comic book reader would want! And the second issue of its sophmore series is coming soon!

Drumsticks of Doom Alt CoverWhen the talents behind the comic book, Drumsticks of Doom, are also musicians, this tribute perhaps inspired by Nelvana’s Rock & Rule is outstanding! Dan Dougherty (Touching Evil) and Jon Westhoff (Part-Time Comix) created a series which is very indie, and although this introduction has the feel of a starter project, I would like to know more.

And to find out what this team had previously done, I found YouTube videos of Dan’s concerts. He’s quite the talent (see below), and for Jon, all I found were interviews.

The good news is that they’re committed to continuing the story as interest grows. After a successful Kickstarter campaign to keep series two going, they can finally slowly get the paper edition off to the printers hopefully soon. More information about that pledge drive can be found by clicking here. As for how latecomers can contribute, it’s best to contact Dan through his official webpage.

In this upcoming instalment, Lana and the crew are taking the next step in their music journey as they head to the mysterious Silver Mountain to record their first album. Their private recording session isn’t so private when characters new and old start trying to get in on the jam session. Lana is losing her cool, when a mysterious voice calls her into the woods.

In this world, Black Sabbath became more famous than the Beatles. And in true heavy metal fashion, the music created a rift to allow the supernatural to come enter this world, and cause a strange cosmic imbalance. But for the people of this alternate Earth, it’s possible to study the occult and practise magik!

But for Lana, this series main protagonist, she doesn’t seem to care as long as she can play her music. Although her act with Jimmy doesn’t have local interest, without more people in their band, they can’t make their big break.

In the first volume, they want to perform in front of an audience, but little things exist to set them back. That includes the drumsticks she uses are “cursed.” Whenever they get played, the sounds will cause any nearby werewolf to rampage! Whether that is the case, these two have to find out. It’s up to them to figure out who’s causing bad voodoo.

While the mystery is like an episode of Scooby-Doo, what they discover and figure out seems like an incomplete tale. I suspect it’s intentional, as the events unfold more like moments to a larger plot. Just who Lita is and what she wants from up-and-coming musicians gets revealed at the end, and while this set of chapters isn’t self-contained. The finale here doesn’t have full closure.

I am curious about the deals that are going to be made. With the second story arc due for release in April, I can’t wait to see what issue #2 will offer. When the devil’s involved, it’s safe to say this is no Robert Johnson story!
