Defrosting The Difference In Ghostbusters Frozen Empire 4k and Blu-ray Release

it’s safe to say when these new films wraps up its trilogy or tetralogy, Ghostbusters Frozen Empire may well be the starting point for spinoffs.

Now available to purchase on Amazon USA and other outlets.

Ghostbusters mania is back again, and with the home video release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Sony Entertainment isn’t offering a brand-new collector’s collection this time ’round. I’m not sure if I want to get another Ultimate Collection, but the limited edition set was tempting. But an ice cube maker isn’t enough.

It’s tough to top the box set created to resemble a ghost trap; to offer space for this disc would have been great. All anyone has to do is to take out the booklet, but is that breaking things up?

I would say not. Also, I had to get my hands on the 4k edition (which the completionist in me wanted to buy) to compare this with the normal Blu-ray release sent for evaluation. Aside from a crisper image, what I wanted to know was where are the bonus features? Everything was packed onto the Blu-ray, which I thought was somewhat unusual. When considering most releases come with discs for DVD and Blu-ray, or Blu-ray and 4K, thankfully it can be easily found.

Firehouse All Frozen Up

What’s presented is a glimpse at various aspects of production. I feel it also gets casual up to speed with the video games where the story takes place at the Firehouse. I’ve seen how this building 14 North Moore Street is laid out. As for whether these games’ floor plans match what’s in the movie, there’s differences! The first feature helps show what the producers want, and this may well be a permanent set.

Also, the eagle-eyed can spot where flooring and rooftops got repaired says a lot about the commitment made into continuing this franchise beyond these two films.

The other segments include examining why the new stars love working with the original ghostbusters. The value in what they say is not different from Afterlife. Ultimately, I want to know more about the expanded universe, and the best piece is about how the music was made. Here, we see how the love is passed on from Elmer Bernstein to son. Also, one instrument to note is the water phone, since its unique sound was used in many horror films from the 70s and 80s. The fact one was made for composer Dario Marianelli to use is interesting!

As for the deleted/extended scenes, some added detail is required. One segment offered some character development concerning Finn’s relationship with Lucky, but when comparing this trimmed bit to the last cut, which I saw later, I can agree that the piece slowed things down. Another piece was just a repeat of what was done earlier in the film, and that’s okay to get cut out.

Overall, this release is a small step above what’s commonly provided. Some bits of information can be found online but others, like the music, not. But if there’s ever a master set presented in the shape of the proton pack, yeah, I’ll buy that in an instant!
