Maid café is a sub-category of costume play (cosplay) cafés. Maid cafés are a place where the servers (waitresses) are dressed in maid costumes and act as servants. The maids treat their customers as if they were masters or mistresses in their own private home. The first permanent maid café, Cure Maid Café, was established in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan in March 2001.
