This collection brings together all the comic strips that were previously made available only to subscribers of the Edgar Rice Burroughs website into a hardcover edition that readers can enjoy. Fans can thank Dark Horse Comics for publishing this release!

This collection will present the tales, as seen in Sunday newspaper strip landscape format, in a format that should respect how they were initially release. These adaptations of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic tales are scripted by comics legend Roy Thomas (Conan the Barbarian, Avengers, Tarzan: The New Adventures) and illustrated by Pablo Marcos (Savage Sword of Conan, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Creepy).

Revealing the origin of the Jungle Lord and his earliest adventures, Tarzan of the Apes is a must for every Tarzan collection!

Tarzan of the Apes Volume 1 will be in comic shops August 24 followed by bookstores on September 6 and will soon be available to preorder at your local comic shop and bookstore. The Amazon listing is forthcoming.

On Netflix, Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane is Just Another Spider-Man

Tarzan and Jane has a very good serialized story to bring pulp style adventure to a new generation of youths growing up on Netflix instead of Disney.

Arad Animation, 41 Entertainment and Arc Productions are behind the latest animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ heroic couple. Tarzan and Jane has a very good serialized story to bring pulp style adventure to a new generation of youths growing up on Netflix instead of Disney. I enjoyed Disney’s take from 2001-03. It was more of a comedy than tales taken from the original author’s work. This latest version is no different.

Avi Arad is producing this latest venture, and his influence upon the production can be felt. He is better known for overseeing Marvel Studios many animated productions like Spider-man up until 2006 (he resigned and formed his own company) and the style is still there. Instead of swinging through a concrete city on threads of a spider and saving people from crime, this jungle hero uses vines and has illegal animal traders. From a creation episode to explain Tarzan’s supernatural origins to establishing Jane as an equal than love interest, this new animated version has enough to like for the messages it conveys, but you just have to weed through the action to find it. The theme of animal conservation is important because animals do not deserve to be put into private zoos.

This New Tarzan Aims High In Style But Swings Low

Not even Tarzan can save the pulps from getting a new life in cinema in the 21st century. Many movies made in the past 16 years tried to rescue this genre and sadly not many of these action heroes from long ago can withstand the test of time. Just ask The Lone Ranger (he made his first appearance in radio). When compared to the genre movies released around 1990, more of those cinematic heroes proved to be memorable.

While The Legend of Tarzan is a pop cultural icon, not every iteration has been as well received. The last jungle movie I recall enjoying was Chris Lambert in the role before Disney turned it into an animated action comedy. After seeing this film, I felt more inclined to tune in to the animated version since I enjoyed the Disney Afternoon version of this hero constantly saving Jane from threats from the Jungle. This movie lacked a certain oomph to make it a tentpole product for Warner Bros. Entertainment.
