Spoiler Alert
A Marvel Cinematic World without Captain America feels weird. And even though I know what’s planned, my question is can Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) fit in Steve Roger’s shoes? He can, because one earns the title rather than it belonging to a specific person. And if he is to represent a new generation in Captain America Brave New World, hopefully the people of Earth 616 will embrace it.
When this new hero is important to President Thaddeus Ross’s (Harrison Ford) master plan, hopefully getting that approval is enough. This standalone film doesn’t feel like one. And when they saved the only hint of the grander plan for last, I could have hit the fast-forward button. Not everyone knows it is part of “The Multiverse Saga.” The idea started with Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) and continued in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness (2022) and later on, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), hopefully those people invested in seeing this seventeen old franchise go on won’t be waiting too long for this new grand arc to hit its finale.
And while I can get used to Mackie as the new Captain America, I’m not sure about his sidekick getting the role of Falcon (Danny Ramirez). He lacks the spice to stand out, and as for Harrison Ford playing Ross instead of William Hurt, the real world explanation is that this actor passed away. We can forgive any unexpected recasts when considering all the films can exist in its own “universe.” As usual, Ford’s scruffy presence can steal the spotlight, and that’s not because he’s the Red Hulk. His transformation was no spoiler, and I wished the scenes of his rampage went on longer.
And at long last, after letting this plot hole linger for years, the movie finally addresses who is exploring the remains of Tiamat (from The Eternals movie). This landmass gets named Celestial Island, and nations will fight for it. This setup doesn’t amount to much other than offering a way to introduce Wolverine and the X-Men to the MCU.
When most fans have the knowledge that Avengers: Secret Wars (based on the 2015 series), they and the Fantastic Four need to be around. And those movies are about two years away!
