Free RPG Day is June 24th, and What’s Best to Get?

Here, we offer our top picks in what to pick up and give a playtest when Free RPG Day rolls out this weekend!

Free RPG Day 2023 LogoAs role playing gamers can get together with new faces at the table to burst the social bubble, Free RPG Day will be even better this year! Even during the pandemic, this event just moved around lots (shifted dates), and it was up to game stores to decide on how to big to make this special day work.

Even I have returned to playing since I craved that need to enjoy the theatre of the mind. Although I had a regular Call of Cthulhu monthly session that started up once when social outings were allowed, there’s wasn’t any connectivity (i.e. it wasn’t a campaign). Now, I’m also involved with two Dungeons and Dragons groups in an ongoing narrative! I have to admit that the blockbuster comedy heist movie helped whet my appetite and I’m glad to have friends with a diverse range of interests to satisfy that RPG itch.

This event is  geared towards introducing new systems and also playtest on the spot. Most venues set aside space. Although I don’t often expound on every year, I did write about a look back at past offerings in this news article here.

The range of teaser products is diverse. It has every genre well represented and my top three choices include the Avatar FRPGD 2023: Movers & Shakers, Achtung! Cthulhu Scenario, and  Transformers and G.I. JOE Role-playing Game: Cobra/Con Fusion to get. But there’s a lot more, and the complete list include:

  • 9th Level Games: Level 1: Indie RPG Anthology, Mazes Fantasy Role-playing Introductory Module
  • Arcane Tinmen: Monsters Cards, Mini Adventure, Pocket RPG Guide
  • BCW: FRPG Day Branded Dice Bag and Tray
