A Writer’s Odyssey 2 in Post Production. So When Will Lu Yang Release It?

While fans wait for Lu Yang’s A Writer’s Odyssey 2 to finish post-production, perhaps now is the time to look at the first film again.

The likelihood of when A Writer’s Odyssey 2 will be ready for release is next year. According to IMDB, this movie is in post-production. Filming ended in late Summer. And when no studio wants to rush its release because of the complex special effects, I hope the wait will not be long. One source said Lu Yang spent up to five years perfecting Lord Redmane’s demon form.

And with this returning director at the helm, he wants every frame to look as good as the original. Based on what he said to press before, namely in building a proper backstory for the big bad, evil guy’s transformation into an evil force (than Li Mu in the real world), I hope the wait is worthwhile. Although the finale of the first film felt like one hero got his wish, I suspect that may not be the case. Also, I suspect Guan Ning’s reunion with his daughter is more a dream than reality, like in The Dark Knight Rises. I prefer more than a glimmer of a confirmation than what’s teased.

A rewatch of it on Shout! Studios (they made it freely available last month) YouTube page made me hope the release of part two will be sooner than later. I offer this quick recap and what we need to know for those who have fallen in love with this Godslayer universe. The reason it’s called that is that of the wicked dragon-headed handheld gatling gun used in the boss fight! To destroy a deity would require some fancy weapon like that!

A Writer's Odyssey Big Bad Evil Guy

That moment is right out of an anime rather than Buddhist tradition, and if I had to sum up where this film takes inspiration from, I’d have to say Guyver! That’s because of a moment featured near the start; Guan Ning’s fictional self came across a corpse with living armour still attached, and it possessed this new “victim” of sorts.

Despite some lower budgeted effects work which doesn’t feel truly part of the world, I imagine that’s because this ambitious film had to make a hard decision which reality is more important. Although the creative control is nothing I haven’t seen before, this was a movie I was excited to check out when first announced, and now that the sequel should come out in about five years’ time or less, I hope the wait is worth it!
