Regarding Two Movie Trailers From Super Bowl Sunday. Quick Thoughts.

Although the movie trailers for the live-action take on How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch during Super Bowl Sunday make the creatures look fantastic, I still don’t think of these cinematic updates as essential viewing. What I offer here are some quick thoughts about the latest promos. Overall, the photorealism is exemplary, and if they were only real, I’d love to play them!

As for what these latest teasers offer:

Stitch on the football field–and the fact Chris Sanders is the voice actor–is enough to get me invested. While this promo is not offering movie footage, I hope all the other CGI elements will be as good. As long Disney delivers the same effort into realizing Jumba and Pleakley as they have into Stitch, this take may well succeed.

I suspect their debut is being saved for last prior to the film’s release. Because without them and Captain Ghantu given equal treatment in coming alive, this film can still easily fall apart.

At least the Vikings and human elements are hard not to mess up. Mason Thames is a worthy successor to play Hiccup, but I feel Gerard Butler may well steal the show. The latest promo shows how he’s more authentic than the core cast. There’s enough debate concerning Nico Parker as Astrid, but until there’s more footage showing her in action. That reservation will remain that.

But ultimately, the scenes that matter concern how well all the world comes alive. As a long-time fan of this franchise, I just hope everything falls into place rather than simply making the film just for DreamWorks to keep the rights for further development. After the finale of Dragons: The Nine Realms, there’s no way to really continue.
