After the two seasons of the miniatures board game starring Cthulhu, the battle isn’t over! And CMON, the publishers of this game, are looking for crowdfunding support for the next instalment, subtitled Cthulhu Death May Die Forbidden Reaches.
I made an unboxing video offering my reactions (or see below) about this game back when it first released, and while I bought this product mostly to have the miniatures, to know this battle royale has a faithful following is encouraging.
Despite the company’s flaws in getting product to backers and market, I’m excited to check out what’s next. As the graphic novels look like they have limited appeal, the game where the action takes place is not.
Players can take on the role of new investigators/characters who are no doubt inspired by the movies, like sisters Anna and Belle, and it’s certainly a catalyst to why we’re seeing Godzilla brought over to this universe! This company teased at this entry during SDCC 2024. An exclusive miniature of TOHO’s most iconic anti-hero was made and offered at only two conventions! This collectible is a nice piece to own, but it doesn’t compare to the larger scale version offered during the crowdfunding campaign!
Unfortunately, this game is not for the faint-hearted. The cost for everything is more than what I spent to get started. However, the investment may be worth it for the savings. When this product hits retail, it’s certainly going to cost more. But the backer rewards will be good for those who want Godzilla. At this point, I question why crossover to other media franchises? I feel some crossovers pollute what makes a singular popular franchise great.
Just because Legendary Pictures has the finances and resources to bring Kong and Godzilla together, that opening of a can of worms is not worth it for every titan that exists.
