The older version is still fun to play, but to have that virtual world sensation delivers a unique experience. It’s like when I’m hunting them for real; whenever I spot a spider, I chase after these critters with a slip of cardboard and a cup to catch for release outside. I’m not that cruel in real life. Although, the more of them you can flatten in-game, the more satisfying the experience is. And virtual apartment you live in opens up! But the game doesn’t end there. It’ll take you outdoors too and into other environments.
The odd part to this game’s design is that the items picked up can’t be thrown at the arachnid. Players need to get close and repeatedly smash before the kill can be tallied. Depending on the object, they’ll either run away or be a stain on the wall. The most satisfying weapon is the flamethrower (technically a spray can and a lighter you MacGuyver up) to burn those critters up. That’s what I found in the early stages of the game and I’m sure there’s upgrades later. Otherwise, why call this arcade game Kill It With Fire VR?
This experience is basically an arcade game brought to virtual life. The weapons at your disposal to use against the eight-legged terror are great. I’m glad to have gotten further to find a radar to track them down. In that regard, Kill It With Fire VR is better than Atari’s Black Widow Recharged. The thought of slamming a household item at them is more satisfying than to blast them away in 2D space. To chase after them, however, requires not getting jumpy at the outstanding sound work. While you can hear them scoot about, just where are they? Here, look everywhere! Perhaps it’s best not to listen to The Who’s “Boris the Spider.”
