Jem Movie: Truly Outrageous!

By James Robert Shaw (The Wind up Geek)

The cast is announced, Jem is here and this is only the beginning.

Hollywood Reporter in an exclusive has announced the casting of the Holograms for the movie Jem. Jem is based on the Hasbro toy line and animated TV series of the same name. The cartoon ran from 1985 to 1988 and chronicled the rise to fame of Jerrica Benton and her alter-ego Jem. As Jerrica Benton she tried to wrest control of her father’s company, Starlight Productions, from corporate baddy Eric Raymond. But as Jem, she and the Holograms battled for supremacy over the charts against Raymond’s discovery, The Misfits.

Nashville’s Aubrey Peeples will play as Hologram front Jem, Stefanie Scott known to many as Lexi Reed from A.N.T. Farm will play the role of Jem’s little sister Kimber, model Aurora Perrineau is Shana, and Hayley Kiyoko from The Fosters will complete the group as Aja.

And late last week, director Jon M. Chu announced on his twitter the casting of Nathan Moore from the feature film Just Tom. Moore will be playing the role of Eric Raymond’s main henchman Zipper.

This feature film will see Jem in a modern retelling, one that is influenced by today’s social media. The Ryan Landels script will see Jem as a oprhaned teenage girl who becomes an online recording sensation. Jem and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt across Los Angeles in an attempt to unlock a final message left to by her father.

Jem is being produced by Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Productions, Scooter Braun Productions and Jon M. Chu.

Note to Parents: Nathan Moore’s audition is not suitable for younger children.
