Top 5 Hosts Who Love Their Paranormal (and Conspiracies Too!)

When the wait for new network episodes of alien curiosities and conspiracies feels long, I’m sure other folks have looked elsewhere for their fix. Whether that’s on YouTube, Paraflixx or Gaia, there are plenty of services to search for. As for who are the best hosts depends on their ability to convince, charm and persuade. When the list of programs is vast, there’s no number one show to explore every single subtopic out there. Neither is there one individual who can cover it all.

This list follows the above listed criteria along with the individual’s willingness to appear on-screen. When I discover some video podcasts use AI-generated art and sometimes a digital voiceover, I’m not as keen to watch. I need to see these people offer his or her sincerity to be interested. When the series shows them taking part in the action, that’s more of a solid sell than anything else. Even though they may be on the sidelines sometimes, that’s okay.

For example, Josh Gates‘ experience in the field and off makes for some wonderful variety. He’s in a league of his own; therefore, he is and isn’t part of this list. Before Expedition Unknown, he was part of Destination Truth. And the sister series Expedition X sometimes gets him out of the office. But now even seeing him all over Discovery Network helps when there are gaps between him filming, lecturing and being their poster child for this broadcaster–which is why I rank him separate from all others.

When he’s also the talking head in Expedition Files and Tales from the Explorer’s Club, where all he does is talk as actors reenact past unsolved mysteries, no other paranormal pop culture celebrities are going to match that.

Presented in no particular order are my favourite shows / channels:

Clive Christopher | Aliens Uncovered

This filmmaker’s ongoing investigation is very personal and what he is looking for goes beyond getting proof positive that little green men exist. He plans on making at least twenty documentaries, and with the series nearing the end, I can’t wait to see how the information he’s gathered all cumulates! The best thing is that he guarantees a feature-length product every few months.

The latest work, Observe and Report 2, is a continuation and in what this explorer is finding this time may well be disconcerting. Something is lurking in the Arizona foothills of his own backyard! Maybe a portal exists near his home. And when his approach certainly shows he is not just another curiosity seeker, his method to get to the truth is just like Kolchak, The Night Stalker!

Here, the plot concerns where his camera drone disappeared to. He piloted it towards a rocky grove and during the presentation, he lost it! Thankfully, a homing beacon exists, but even when he arrives at the coordinates, it’s nowhere to be seen! It has to be nearby, but he can’t figure out where it is, even after checking under every rock, nook, and cranny.

When various states of existence overlap one another in ways current philosophies have not entertained, I have a theory. At present, most people can only perceive the three physical dimensions, time, and space. Anyone who has seen the Star Trek classic episode, “Wink of an Eye” may well have an idea, and that’s where I draw my idea from. I suspect objects have gotten their atomic frequency changed.

As for what’s next that this filmmaker has planned to explore, it’s safe to assume Arizona is a magnet for a lot of strange phenomena. It’s not just about those ghosts and alien hotspots, but also sacred spaces too.

Andrew J. Gentile | The Why Files

On the streaming/podcast front, this host is genuine with his interest in the esoteric, and he has a background in the television industry. From story editor to voice actor, to have that skill set is important, because it helps him fashion very entertaining content!

As for why I adore his content is because he wants to get to the truth of why some things happen rather than say you have to believe. When some topics he explores are controversial, he often worries in the videos about whether the men in black will shut him down. Whether that will ever happen, viewers will have to wait and see.  While he can get away with more stuff in the audio podcasting world, the video material on YouTube is where I discovered his work.

Not only are the topics he explores are far more diverse than Ancient Aliens, but also the comic relief, Hecklefish, is a hoot. Although this aquatic shyster can get annoying, the odd quip is too good to not laugh out loud at. The best episode is when this fish got kidnapped, and A.J. offered to pay more money to keep this annoyance out of his life!

Plus, when the IMDB listing says he’s provided a variety of characters on Avatar: Legend of Korra, I suspect he’s the voice behind Hecklefish. To determine whether he is or not is difficult. When I see jump cuts and close-ups being used, the one-camera set must be three. And some post-production (video editing) is required to cut out moments that can get censored, there’s plenty of room to include cuts to include quips from this troublemaker. But for those who’ve subscribed to The Why Files’ YouTube channel, apparently, they have access to the uncut content.

Storied | Monstrum and Fate & Fabled

This YouTube channel came into prominence after I had trouble knowing what the broadcast order for each show was on PBS’ own website. This online service includes dates and is a collective hive for capsule sized documentaries which explore the strange and exotic. When a lot of the content comes from this network’s own digital studios, the production quality is tops. The bloopers at the end are fun to watch! Here, the subject is not just about UFOs, but also the creatures from folklore, and where it intersects with pop culture!

These are two shows which I regularly tune into. One is Monstrum, where Emily Zarka, Ph.D. (picture above), looks at the lore and why specific mythical monsters have come into prominence in mainstream media. She offers capsule overviews of famous monsters from folklore and also SCPs. A foundation exists that catalogues imaginative (fictional) entities that defy humanity’s current understanding of how the universe works. That is, there are beings that exist in some strange schism and they love tormenting humanity.

With Fate & Fabled, Dr. Moiya McTier and Zarka consider why certain legendary stories and ancient characters from mythology are still relevant today. That’s because a few tropes began with them, and they are in use in modern day storytelling. Whether that’s in film, comic books or remixes, they stand the test of time. To listen to what they say will update writers, cryptozoologists and mythologists about the latest trends.

Beyond Belief with George Noory

To be fair, Coast to Coast began with Art Bell as the host, and over the years, it has become a staple. Folks can get the freshest info about some unusual sighting, strange manifestation or latest rambling from some newcomer to the field. The topics are more varied, since it deals with the paranormal and extraterrestrial on equal terms. Although Beyond Belief with George Noory is behind a subscription paywall, there are shows which make tuning in worth the price.

David Wilcock | Divine Cosmos

What makes this scientist’s YouTube channel different from others is the fact he offers the occasional random video, which is not about Ancient Aliens. He’ll offer glimpses of his life away from the camera, and it’s a welcome departure. Even at a glance, to see he’s willing to go beyond talking about his interest in science and spirituality. Also, I firmly believe he’s a lot more respectable than Travis S. Taylor.
