Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest is an all-new adventure that is a sequel to Ghostbusters: Back in Town. Dark Horse’s continuation bridges the gap between the films Afterlife and Frozen Empire. Reviews and thoughts about each of the films can be found by clicking on these titles. And if I remember what Cheech Marin said in the original film, “Better later than never.” Although that was regarding the Titanic, perhaps pirates sailed up to old Manhattan too!
From the Press Release:
In Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest, the Ghostbusters’ increasing notoriety is throwing them for a loop. While Trevor steadies himself by trying to plan a “friendiversary” celebration for him and Lucky, Phoebe meets someone who might be a real friend instead of just a social media follower. But friendships new and old have to take a back seat to more immediate concerns when a ghostly saber summons the ghost of Captain Kidd and threatens to transform NYC into a ghostly pirate town!
David M. Booher (Canto, The Feeding) returns to pen more adventures for the new Ghostbusters crew with art by Aviv Or (Critical Role: The Tales of Exandria—Artagan, Midst: The Valorous Farmer), colors by Cris Peter (Critical Role: The Tales of Exandria, FML), and lettering by Jimmy Betancourt of Comicraft (Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures). Tyler Crook (Harrow County) will illustrate the cover art for issue #1, with a variant cover by Max Sarin (The Great British Bump Off).
“It’s wonderful to be branching out the Ghostbusters stories to reach a broader audience,” said editor Jenny Bingham-Blenk. “Working with David, Aviv, Cris, Jimmy, and the team at Ghost Corps has been a fun collaboration that will invite readers of all ages to dive deeper into Ghostbusters.
Booher added, “When I researched ghostly happenings in New York City, I came across the true story of Captain Kidd. He owned a house near Wall Street with his family. Turns out, historians are divided on whether he was the fearsome pirate we know or actually framed for piracy. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring him back to ask him ourselves. What could be more fun than having our Ghostbusters stop an angry Captain Kidd from turning Manhattan into a 17th century ghost pirate den?”
Ghostbusters: Dead Man’s Chest #1 (of 4) sails into comic shops on May 21, 2025. It is now available to pre-order for $4.99 at your local comic shop.
