Who Needs John McClane when Kevin Hart Proves He Can Die Hart 3 Times Over?

Die Hart 3 Hart to Kill Promotional PosterKevin Hart has been through a lot since season one of his fictionalised life, and when this series is up to Die Hart 3, I’ll gladly tune in to watch what this actor is up to next!

To recap what happened before, this comedian wants a change of career, and wants to switch from being a comedian to that of an action-star. In season one, he learns the ropes, and the training he underwent was tough (review link)! Season Two shows him elevating that training so that he can be like Jackie Chan  (review link), and the stakes are a lot higher. Not only does he want to produce that movie but also, he wants top billing.

In this latest instalment, he’s now wanting to star in a serious drama. After getting laughed off stage with his work as a narrator for what looks like a nature documentary. And in order to do that, he’ll have to convince the renowned director, Jackson Pepper (J. K. Simmons), to give him the chance. However, this producer doesn’t think this actor has what it takes. Until he graduates from the Pepper School of Hard Knocks, nobody in Hollywood will take him seriously.

And what this architect does is to frame him for assaulting him. After he dies, Kevin freaks out! Instead of waiting for the cops to arrive, he runs away and Jordan (Nathalie Emmanuel) arrives in time to help him escape. Pretty soon, they get another person involved, and I won’t give away all the details. This moment is when the action gets vividly amped up, and I can’t stop watching! I needed to see what happens next to confirm my suspicions regarding whether or not Jackson has staged everything, and it’s being filmed without Hart and Jordan knowing.

Pearl’s (Anna Garcia) involvement is rather small, but pretty soon, what Hart learns is that everyone, including the renegade cop, Roger Richards (Tony Cavalero) has met Pepper at some point. He’s not just a loose cannon, but also a person who takes matters too seriously.

Although the first episode foreshadowed everything to come, I still enjoyed the gentle surprises when that moment came to fruition. Ultimately, the mock villain, Cavalero, stole the show, and I suspect his role is not over yet. When the finale sets up the next season, I like to know if he can figure out what had happened, and if he’ll “team up” with Hart and gang to expose the skullduggery going on!

I don’t recall the previous seasons being this dark, and in what this series sets up is actually a fun action-comedy that delves into how tough it is to get recognised in Hollywood. While the tales are very tongue-in-cheek, even after watching this latest entry, I’ll have to watch all three come Christmas Day. It has the same energy as the Die Hard movies, but instead of being over the top with its gun play sequences, what’s presented here is more level-headed. We’re watching a guy simply survive the mean streets of Los Angeles, and that’s okay!
