After this domesticated canine and a streetwise feline manage to get lost in transit on the flight to their new forever home, things go from where am I, and how can we find Salt Lake City? The cat fears the worst, because she’s a rescue kitty with memories of how she got abandoned. I can’t blame her for fearing the worst.
Thankfully, Sophie (Bianca Alongi) has a plan after the airlines lost her pets. Her can-do attitude is infectious. She created a viral video asking people to help find where her pets have gone. And because they lost their collars, finding them will be tough! As for why they aren’t chipped, well, that’s a question only the writing team behind this film can answer!
Had the adventure been told from the humanoid point of view, I’d probably not enjoy this work as much. I can buy into the adventure as it doesn’t get too crazy with Gracie and Pedro’s encounters while on the road. And for some reason, I can’t shake the thoughts of The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show out of my head while watching this film. Both are wholesome fun watches, and perhaps that’s the explanation!
Also, the wide range of comedic talent recruited for this film is vast. The cat and dog meet two rats who aren’t exactly friendly to them. Thankfully, there’s other beasts are are nicer and that’s when all these big celebrity names start appearing. And as for Danny Trejo, he gets to show off his vocal comedy chops as the narrator and, humorously enough, the voice of reason. I really wanted to see more of this goldfish! One gag had me laughing, even though I had to ask afterwards how did he get grandpa’s teeth?
Other names include Alicia Silverstone as a slithery two-headed snake, Susan Sarandon as a magician’s rabbit. There’s no need to list them all since their role is really brief, and as for who’s the most memorable of this lot are a human-pet team of Detective Doyle (James Kee) dressed like Dick Tracy (unfortunately, he doesn’t have the same street smarts as the pulp version), and with his ferret named Sherlock (Mike Nadajewski). Although neither are true to whom they aspire to be, they really steal the show!
While Gracie and Pedro: Mission Impossible has a UK theatrical release, there’s still no word on when it’ll come to the USA. Distribution rights are tricky, and I’m guessing it might be a Shout! Studio direct to video here. I also suspect no bonus material will be offered, but if there is, all I can hope for are extended sequences with the bigger names; or perhaps, music videos since the pop tracks are actually quite good, and I’d love to see the viral video that was made in full.
