Before Ninjago Dragons Rising Might Be One More “United” Tale to Test The Masters of Spinjitzu!

LEGO Ninjago Dragons Rising call it the MergeComing to Netflix June 1, 2023

Two new Ninjago related series are coming and they are Ninjago United and Ninjago Dragons Rising! The former is designed to bridge the gap between sagas and the other is what showrunners Chris “Doc” Wyatt and Kevin Burke consider new! The adventures of the Masters of Spinjitzu is at an end, and according to the info presented at the Internet Movie Database (June 6 update: according to Reddit, this entry is fake news) is that the mini-series will see the team in one more adventure dealing with Krux and Acronix (from “The Hands of Time”). They are about to do the unthinkable–to merge the remaining realms to some megaverse–and afterwards, is Dragons Rising. In the aftermath, some residents are doing what they can to accept everything, but there’s much more calamity to transpire!

The trailer recently released is a teaser for what’s to come, and it’s fair to say the focus is definitely on a new generation of warriors to defend freedom. One warning must be said though, don’t look at the IMDB entry for this series. A lot of information is apparently spilled there. What I offer is information from only the trailer: Here, we learn many realms have been torn apart by a new threat, and just who is leading this cosmic Battleworld is with a panther type lord. And here, I insert the obligatory spoiler alert.

In the trailer, the setup shows the original team are indeed back for one more adventure before their world got splintered. While two manage to stay in a city known as The Crossroads, everything is combined. The incident is simply called The Merge, much like how the MCU uninspiringly called the disappearance of many “The Blip.”

Who we see in this brand-new world is Lloyd and Kai, and I thought I heard Nya too. Just whom the Green Ninja meets is Arin, a young child who just naturally knows Spinjitzu, and although Sora chides him for his naivety as though he’s like Daniel LaRusso from The Karate Kid, he’ll have to show he has the chops to become the next guardian. And along the way, they somehow manage to adopt a baby dragon!

In this series, they also have to find the Elemental Dragons, since they are the only ones able to traverse the realms in order to return the individual landscapes from whence they came. Without them, the citizens have nothing better to do other than be conquered, ruled and perhaps enslaved. Just like in “Skybound,” what this new threat wants is to take bits and pieces from the world to create a new realm. But instead of one dimension, it’s many, and while I’m not sure if we’ll see crossovers from other LEGO worlds here. To finally see Cragger from Legends of Chima back and helping the ninja is already talked about. As for other series like Hidden World and Nexo Knights, maybe. I suspect there’ll be some kind of Dreamzzz cameo in the background. But to offer up other cinematic crossovers would be hard since this series isn’t borrowing from The LEGO Movie.

There are a lot more mechas being featured in this sci-fi update to the martial arts series. Hopefully that won’t be too distracting, as this latest instalment is shying away from its original roots. I’ll be watching it because the title Ninjago Dragons Rising suggests the return of the elemental dragons, and that’s all that matters!
