The 50th anniversary of Scooby-Doo Continues!

Scooby-DooBy Ed Sum
(The Vintage Tempest)

The 50th anniversary of Scooby-Doo started mid last year, and it’s showing no signs of winding down! Fans are getting a few new goods even as the year is wrapping up and also reprints. The comic-book Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. #1 (no relation to the 2011 TV series)  is new to DC’s digital platform. The story is old, originally appearing in Scooby-Doo 50th Anniversary Giant #1, and there’s more reading to be found online for free!

As for where this franchise will go next, fans can go see the recent film or wait for the next video releases. There’s even a rerelease of the original series that started it all on blu-ray. The question of whether you want to upgrade or not depends on whether owning the haunted house edition is a must, or having both so the Mystery Machine can idle in front.

He’s even recognized in Australia with his own postage stamp set and for anyone still wanting last year’s toys, anything left is most likely in the discount bin by now.

But for those who have missed the early celebrations, the material still available still includes activities via the official website and anxiously waiting for season two of Scooby Doo and Guess Who? to premiere, which should be soon!

I’m particularly excited for the return of the Hex Girls to this world. It’s safe to assume they will perform an all new song. On the list includes the return of Whoopi Goldberg to the series. Other notable names include Mark Hamill, George Takei, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Bill Nye.

As for new direct to home video releases, Warner Bros recently announced Happy Halloween, Scooby-Doo! where he’ll meet Elvira, Mistress of the Dark! Mr. Nye will even return, and unlike the movie, we have the original team–Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo/Fred Jones), Grey Griffin (Daphne Blake), Matthew Lillard (Shaggy Rogers) and Kate Micucci (Velma Dinkley) continuing their roles. This film was no doubt produced at the same time or before the big screen reboot. Fans can be thankful that this group is still around and it’s all around terrific!
