When it comes to a picturesque seaside city like Victoria, one would think sightseeing is the only activity year round. But for those visitors wanting other activities to do, you don’t have to look too deep to learn there’s more to Victoria than something to stare at.

And one of those is geared towards fandom. Island Fantasy Con (IF Con), is doing its bit to make geek life on the island a little more thrilling. Named after a local comic book store that was popular back in the 80’s, the convention will bring the best of horror, fantasy, and comic book fandom into our area.

This show was formerly known as the Victoria, SF & Fantasy Convention back in 2001 and Victoria ComicCon in 2009. These past versions of IF Con had a variety of guests that included from Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator), Alexandra Tydings (Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules) and  Chase Masterson (Star Trek:DS9) visiting the island. Richard Hatch (Battlestar Galactica, The Guild) was in attendance at both and he will be returning this year, along with William Katt (The Greatest American Hero, Justice League) and Brinke Stevens (Slumber Party Massacre, The Naked Monster).

A few new names include Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers In the 25th Century, Sidekicks) and Jessica Cameron. She is known on television as Mildred in The Funnyman and as Summer Perkins in Two Doors Down. She has recently carved a niche for herself in the horror genre, films like Silent Night and this year’s voyeuristic Virginia Obscura. Last year’s Truth or Dare was Cameron’s first venture into the horror genre where she wrote and directed her own flick.

Co-written with Jonathan Scott Higgins, Truth or Dare sees six college students faced with Internet stardom after they made truth or dare videos with a violent bent. Stardom becomes bittersweet when the videos’ number one fan decides to play by his own rules.

IF Con will be held October 31 and November 1, 2015 at the G.R. Pearkes Arena in the municipality of Saanich.
