31 Years Later, Dynamite Comics’ Gargoyles Shows Greg Weisman Still Has More Stories To Tell

Even 32 years after the release of Disney’s Gargoyles, the fandom remains strong. After Dynamite Comics‘ Gargoyles: Demona, I’m anxious for more. This series marked a turning point by spotlighting this complex anti-hero (review link) during the long years while the others slept. It leaves me wondering what’s next. What stories does creator Greg Weisman still have planned?

When the legacy of Gargoyles is rich with supporting characters who feel primed for spinoffs, just who is next following the Demona mini-series will be fun to debate over. My money is on Puck, as his time with the Mortals over the years still has not been explored. He did give viewers a tease, but to see it come to life proper is highly desired. That’s one side story I’d like to see published by Dynamite.

But as for what’s what’s currently out and expected this year, we do have the following:

Despite minor hiccups with reprints of older works not hitting shelves as scheduled, and a curious crossover with the Fantastic Four, whatever Weisman chooses to write is generally considered canon. Darkwing Duck makes sense. The other crossover with The Fantastic Four, less so. Still, with luck, later in the year will bring more news about what’s next for this ongoing series. What follows highlights underrated heroes and villains who deserve stories of their own.

Doctor Anton Sevarius

Tim Curry is a vocal talent whose presence simply charms, and Sevarius is the kind of villain you love to hate. This amoral geneticist is behind some of the series’ most disturbing experiments, including the creation of Thailog and the Mutates. His reckless ambition and complete disregard for consent or consequence make him ideal for a standalone tale. Whatever he has “on the slab” could easily become a new nightmare for Goliath and the clan.

Owen Burnett / Puck

Seeing more of this split personality in sequential art feels long overdue. After revisiting episodes where he teaches young Alexander the ways of magic, it’s clear how much depth has gone unexplored in the comics. Voiced by Jeff Bennett as Owen and Brent Spiner as Puck, the character feels perfectly suited for his own story. A narrative that folds in Avalon’s lingering mysteries would be especially welcome.

Tom the Guardian

By the time Tom matured into one of the Gargoyles’ most steadfast human allies, his absence becomes noticeable. Greg Weisman has hinted in recent interviews, including a November 2025 Comicon.com session, that he views the Dynamite run as a “sprawling tapestry.” While 2026 may be the year of the Duck, the continued success of the ongoing Gargoyles: Quest series leaves the door open for Tom’s return when the story shifts back toward Avalon’s mystical roots.

As protector of Avalon and the rookery eggs, Tom proves heroism doesn’t require powers, only courage, compassion, and commitment. Gerrit Graham brought real weight to the role, showing how seasoned a warrior Tom has become. With Tom and Princess Katherine standing as the true guardians of the eggs, it’s hard not to wonder whether Magus still sleeps, waiting for the island to need mortal aid once more.

King Arthur

Not much needs to be said about the legend himself, but his story continues to unfold quietly. He’s gained an ally in Griff, Merlin has been named if not yet revealed, and much of Arthur’s journey remains referenced rather than shown. Whether he will need the Gargoyles again, or finally build that New Camelot hinted at in lore, remains a story worth telling.

Although we’ve already seen solo stories for Angela and even Bronx, depending on how you view the televised run on ABC, there’s still so much of this world left unexplored. With Dynamite Comics, these are official chapters three and four of the saga, and the promise of what lies ahead remains as exciting as ever.
