Halloween vs Day of the DeadAt long last, people curious about the differences between the last two calender holidays will them will get a family friendly film to explore the differences! That’s assuming Celso García and Studio 100’s gets the financing required to go forward to make Halloween vs Day of the Dead. And just whether this idea is borrowing from The Nightmare Before Christmas, we will have to wait.

The idea sounds promising, and here’s what we know so far: In what’s key to go forward is securing global partners so it will have distribution. This film isn’t just a holiday crossover for novelty’s sake; the studio went to the 2025 American Film Market to pitch this product is to show that what they got has international appeal.

Behind the scenes, the film is a Mexican–German co-production with Lunch Films in partnership. García’s past work on The Thin Yellow Line and The Great Seduction shows he’s the right person in charge, and together with producers Thorsten Wegener, Gerry Cardoso, along with executive support from Martin Krieger, Axel Vielma, and Fernando Estrada, what they got is a solid package. They just need a distribution deal as the IMDB suggests all the groundwork has been done.

According to the official synopsis, Pumpkid, is a shy lad from “Halloween Ville” who visits “The Day of the Dead Town” to find his late grandfather. He meets Bony Lu, a spirited Catrina girl, and together, they have to find out both of their home towns holiday candies have gone missing. While they are more traditional for the latter event, just what it means for the pagan tradtion is still a mystery.

García describes the film as personal, aiming to honour the heart of Mexican identity and celebrate the emotional richness of Día de los Muertos while still embracing Halloween’s universal charm. The film is slated for a 2028 theatrical release. All they need is a deal to make it happen.
