Unconfirmed is if Rachel Weisz is truly on board. She’s had a brilliant life outside of Hollywood with independent productions like The Whistleblower and Disobedience. She made a step back into higher profile roles like Melina Vostokoff in Black Widow. Talks are indeed happening. The biggest factor in seeing the couple return is that both are adamant about a good script! And without Jonathan (John Hannah), the comic relief, the odds are 50-50 to greenlight it. I can’t see a movie working without this rogue in tow.
Also, this movie won’t be coming out anytime soon. When considering the timeline from announcement to creation can take up to five years, a lot can change. When Blumhouse’s own version is due out in 2026, which may have taken cues from Titan Comics’ The Mummy: Palimpsest, at least the love for all things Mummy has been consistent.
That’s all fans know so far regarding how to get the version of the franchise we all love. None of the works from other studios are attached to one another, and if it happens, I personally like to see Sommers return as executive producer to ensure continuity. As for whether the third counts, that’s subject to fan debate.
In part two, I will consider possible story directions this continuation can go. It really has to consider the passage of time, especially when considering how much older half the actors have aged. Thankfully, the initial tale took place in the mid 20s and to set it in the 40s isn’t too displacing. And like Indiana Jones, maybe a new quest is required that could align with how Night at the Museum provided a finale—taking the events back to Egypt, the Two Lands.
