Tokyo Ghoul’s Katsuyuki Konishi Announced as Anime Revolution Guest of Honor!

You might call Katsuyuki Konishi (小西克幸) Koutarou Amon of Tokyo Ghoul, Ozma Lee of Macross Frontier, Tom Tanaka of Durarara!!, or Bulat of Akame ga Kill!. But no matter what character you know him for, he is widely regarded as one of the most in-demand voice actors in the business today and he is coming to Anime Revolution in Vancouver this summer.

An award-winning actor, Konishi got his first break as Volfogg on Sunrise’s 1997 animated series The King of Braves GaoGaiGar. He would go on to reprise Volfogg in the 2000 OVA The King of Braves GaoGaiGar Final. That was the start of what would be a successful career for Konishi voicing many now favourite characters of anime. His list of credits includes Laxus Dreyar of Fairy Tail, Johann Trinity of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Pinion of Suisei no Gargantia, and Raikou in two Pokémon feature films.

Like any good seiyuu (voice artist), Konishi has diversified into different medias that include drama CDs (High School Debut, Pandora Hearts), original internet animation (Kare Baka, The King of Fighters: Another Day), video comics (Beelzebub, Kuroko’s Basketball), Tokusatsu (Tensou Sentai Goseiger, Unofficial Sentai Akibaranger), and video games. Konishi’s video game credits extend as long as his anime. He’s voiced Xander in Fire Emblem Fates for the Nintendo 3DS, Carlos in Valhalla Knights 3 for the PS Vita, Maxima in The King of Fighters series, and Hideo Minagawa in the Initial D Arcade games.

Through his body of work Konishi was awarded the Best Supporting Actor Award for his character Ritsu Kisaragi in La Corda d’Oro Blue Sky at the 9th Annual Seiyuu Awards, held March 7, 2015 at the JOQR Media Plus Hall in Minato, Tokyo. He was nominated previously for Shinobu Ousaki in Kiniro no Corda: Primo Passo in 2007.

Konishi was a Guest of Honor at Anime Expo 2010 but this is to be his first appearance at a Canadian convention.

Previously announced by Anime Revolution was voice actress and singer Emiri Katō (加藤英美里). Katō has voiced Akatsuki in Log Horizon, Mai Kondō in Wake Up, Girls!, Shiori Sekine in Angel Beats!, and Yayoi Endo in Seraph of the End: Battle in Nagoya.

For music Katō has performed the songs “Lucky Bite” for the Monogatari second series opener and formed a vocal duo with Lucky Star cast member and friend Kaori Fukuhara. Together as Kato*Fuku they performed the ending theme songs for the When Supernatural Battles Became Commonplace and Battle Spirits Saikyō Ginga Ultimate Zero television anime series. They released three albums in four years. Katō and Fukuhara performed their last live performance on September 10, 2016.

In 2008 Katō, along with her co-recipients Aya Hirano, Kaori Fukuhara, and Aya Endo won Best Musical Performance at the 2nd Annual Seiyuu Awards held at the Akiba 3D Theater (now the UDX Theater) in Akihabara, Tokyo. The actresses won for the Lucky Star opening theme “Motteke! Sailor Fuku.”

In 2012 Katō won the Seiyuu Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles of Kyubey in Puella Madoka Magica, Mei-Rin in Black Butler, and Kiko Kayanuma in Darker than Black.
