Count Wind Up’s 13 Coffin Hits for the Living Impaired

16 Oct

James Shaw (The Wind Up Geek)By James Robert Shaw (The Wind Up Geek)

When it comes to Halloween music, I prefer the old and creepy over the new and scary (I’m still wondering whatever happened to the Transylvania Twist). And though my music picks may not be as eclectic as my writing partner’s (which is coming up), there are still some who consider I have good taste in both music and blood type.

The original Addams theme from 1964 was written and arranged by Vic Mizzy, Mizzy was a Hollywood TV and film composer responsible for the Green Acres TV theme, and with Irving Taylor, he co-wrote the hit song “Three Little Sisters” as performed by The Andrews Sisters.

But out of any of Mizzy’s TV compositions (even though The Double Life of Henry Phyfe theme was similar), “The Addams Family” has to be his best contribution to date. Mizzy sang the theme himself by overdubbing his voice to make it sound like a trio. Ted Cassidy, who played the family’s butler Lurch, interjected words like “neat”, “sweet” and “petite.”

As Westerners we consider the Japanese as a polite people, but when it comes to a j-pop idol concert, that politeness quickly disappears. On one hand they may bow to you out of respect, on the other hand they have no second thoughts of taking you down if you get between them and their performing idol. YouTuber Storehouse Channel (保管庫ちゃんねる) was witness to such an incident on the 2nd day of the Tokyo Idol Festival, the world’s largest idol festival, held annually In the Odaiba and Aomi area.
