It’s a Good Time for a Marvel Nerd: Dates Announced up to 2019 & Thoughts!

Marvel Comics Entertainment is telling the world why they are indeed mighty today. At a special event in Hollywood’s El Capitan Theater, this company teased press and fans alike with trailers, speeches and title cards highlighting what “Phase 3” of their films will entail, leaving some fans who can’t be there for real deciding to follow this event through streaming media and twitter reports. Some may well have thought Phase 2 blitzed by too fast even though it hasn’t.

Oujia Feels Too Cheesy To Be Taken Seriously

Ouija, despite having good opening box office dollars in its first weekend, will most likely fade away when All Hallow’s Eve is over. Burning this board is not an option when considering this film has the signs of being a pure Hollywood manufacture stamped all over it.

The idea is based on reality, if the folklore is to be believed. Spiritualists used it as a means of contacting spirits and they would in hand respond by guiding the planchette to letters to spell out words, respond yes or no to, count or say goodbye. The question of what they summoned depends on whether that ghost of Uncle John is truly from Jamaica or Hell. In this film’s case, it an attempt by Laine (Olivia Cooke) to learn why her best friend Debbie (Shelley Hennig) hanged herself. Apparently, one of the first rules of Ouija is to never play the game alone, something Debbie didn’t adhere to. Other proprieties include invoking a small measure of protection, which never works in any horror film, and saying goodbye — the latter desire to see the ending couldn’t happen soon enough.

Griffen Lea, Sarah Anne Murphy, Candace Woodland, Kelly Hudson are back in the Rocky Horror Show and they are bad in Rebel Knock Out (RKO) Productions’ take of this seminal Richard O’Brien stage classic. They have taken the energy from how they played Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Janet, Columbia, and Riff-Raff from last year’s Kaleidoscope version and amped it up. The crowd (whether they’ve seen that performance or not) roared and the shadow dancers cooed at their antics. Perhaps what’s noticeable is the added energy from Woodland strutting her stuff in the tap dancing routine from “Time Warp” and R.J. Peters (Brad) really channeling his inner nerd. When it comes to special solos in a musically raunchy show, Peters certainly created some nostalgic and sombre tones in “Once in a While” to make his moment memorable.

On Bill Murray and St. Vincent, A Movie Review

Maybe there is a big reason as to why Bill Murray isn’t interested returning to the Ghostbusters universe. He looks ready to retire from the acting world for good after appearing in the movie St. Vincent. However, this film is not going to mark the end of his illustrious career as more films are in the pipeline featuring either him or his voice.

Although he’s the star of this comedic social drama about Vincent, an unlikable misanthrope, there’s a heart of gold that’s gently wanting to come out — hence this film’s title. He takes a liking to Oliver Bronstein (Jaeden Lieberher), a scrawny but very intelligent 12-year old. Lieberher provides some brilliant young Macaulay Culkin type moments and his talent should not go unnoticed, especially when his character is what ultimately wins many an audience’s heart. As Oliver, he’s tossed into a world he’s not ready for. The story mixes in elements of a coming of age tale along with awkward father-son style moments even though these two are not related. In the way they bond, they might as well be grandfather having fun with the grandson he never had much like how PIXAR’s Up, worked.

Celebrate the Book of Life, Western-Style

Not many films truly acknowledge what another culture’s celebration is mainly about, and with The Book of Life, it does more than introduce to the world what the Mexican holiday, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is about. It’s known as a time for family and friends to gather together to honour and remember those who have passed, but there’s more; for some people, it is a time of introspection. This three-day celebration begins October 31st and not everyone considers the image of the skull frightening.

This time to celebrate is a communion to show that nobody, in close familial bonds or mutual companionship, is not forgotten. And that’s what makes this film enjoyable to follow. The story is centred upon the deep affection three close friends have for each other while growing up in the fictional Mexican town of San Ángel. In their childhood, Manolo (Diego Luna), Maria (Zoe Saldaña), and Joaquin (Channing Tatum) are inseparable even though the passion of the heart and following what their parents want for them to become as adults would insert daggers into their relationship. After Maria is taken away to learn how to grow up to be a proper lady, Manolo and Joaquin are groomed to be, respectively, the world’s greatest bull fighter and soldier for their little town.
