About Us

Welcome to Otaku No Culture. This name may sound Japanese but there’s more to what we plan to deliver than meets the eye. Is it for Asian eyes only or, will there be more? No, we will be exploring pop culture. This play on words is how this e-zine (okay, a blog) is born.

And for some of us, here, the content will be of interest for the fans living in the Pacific Northwest. We won’t limit ourselves either, as there is always something interesting to discover developed in some corner of the world. From time to time, there will be a pinch of nostalgia tossed in or a look at family-friendly material mixed into the material we like to write about.

Call me a cartoon addict. I admit it and wear the badge of honour proudly. I have been enjoying it since the late 70’s and this medium is my escape into hyper-reality. I also love CGI. Marry the two and they can create fantastic new worlds in cinema. My reviews are not your standard type. I include commentary and analysis to make my work unique. I also support independent and international cinema.

And not only that, I have a huge passion for the paranormal and enjoy retrogaming.

I started covering the Arts and Entertainment scene for Camosun College’s Nexus Newspaper and interned at Absolute Underground Magazine. You can also find me delivering content once in a blue moon to other entertainment sites too, like 28DLA.com, Drunk in a Graveyard and Skewed n’ Reviewed.

You can find me on the Twitterverse posting about various topics I find of interest as @Edohotep

Movies, books, animation and games — Put all of them together and you’ll find me in the middle enjoying them all. I’ve always enjoyed the gaming scene the most, which ranges from playing Dungeons & Dragons and Tron on my uncle’s Intellivision as a child, all the way to the huge budget to triple-a titles of today. That’s not to say I don’t have other interests I may comment on from time to time.

I’m also a fan of anime, the 80’s and nostalgia in general. I’m simply a friendly nerd, here to see what comes next from the world of entertainment. You can find me on twitter as @shonasof

I talk about the odd thing which fancies me and maybe satisfy the inner geek within us all. Here, you will find my love for British and Japanese culture dominate in the articles I write (if I can ever find the time that is).

I believe that even for an adult, there’s still a child in all of us. Let’s face it—there’s nothing wrong with watching a cartoon or having a few toys on a shelf. As long as you maintain the day-to-day responsibilities of an adult, you can still enjoy the world of a big kid. On Twitter, I am the main guy behind the twitter handle of @Windupgeeks
